What is everybody's TOP 10 (or Top 5 if you can't find enough) favourite Irish musician or group. Doesn't matter what field of music it is. Irish traditional to rock or blues or country etc...

It would be interesting to know what the public opinion is, rather than critics glorifying their favourites.

"""Nobody even mentioned My Bloody Valentine.... """

well that would have to be the best band ever,

for the little I know Kevin Sield is not precisly inlove with Ireland, maybe that's the reason

    Pogues
    Frames
    Thin Lizzy
    Therapy?
    Mundy

Hmm thrills I think i don't like them cos they haven't had any particular song I've really liked, and it sorta pisses me off that they have so much success internationally with one album that sounds to me like a variation of one song on every track whereas the frames are practically unheard of outside Ireland, all the same haven't seen them live that sometime makes a big difference

    My Bloody Valentine
    Rory Gallagher
    The Stunning
    The Jimmy Cake
    Therapy?

there are countless other irish bands that people just plain forget about too often: the virgin prunes, the sultans of ping fc etc. the irish music scene seems so insular these days doesn't it? it's a sad day when most irish music fans view the ten greatest irish artists as the frames and a bunch of their mates.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 651 ✭✭✭Okie

    Blink
    Engine Alley
    Juniper
    The Pale
    Revilino (I think?)

Just a few that popped into my head.

My own favourites would be: -

    Thin Lizzy
    U2
    Blink
    David Kitt
    Paddy Casey
    The Frames
    Whipping Boy
    Rory Gallagher

    Gah, can't think!!

ah sure Josh may not be irish but you we have somewhat adopted him... and his non irishness in no way takes anything away from the quality of his performances...

actually a performance i've seen that is pretty good, and i don't say this as an aquaintence of the band but as an honest fan, there's a cork band called "Exit The Street" who have been known to get a crowd going, there's been a few occasions where the two guitarists have a dual, playing tennis with a guitar solo, very entertaining.
The Berries have a pretty good live show too,
Fred, FRED oh yes i almost forgot, how could I... if ya want a band to get ya moving Fred won't disappoint... and Humit....
All Cork Bands i know, but it's all happening in cork at the moment music-wise, there are some pretty rockin bands comin out of the woodwork down here
