OK, so I'm planning to get Sky+, but I was wondering if anyone knows of any deals going on at the moment, such as 15 euros installation for example?

    Thanks,

    Ciarán.

monthly rental is free as long as you subscribe to two or more sky premium channels

    otherwise it's €15 a month

Whats the best/cheapest place in Galway city to get Sky +??

Also I have sky digital already installed do i need to have the phone line connected and also will there be more than 1 cable coming into my sitting room seeing as a different LNB is being used...

If you already have Sky installed without a line (older installations) you can get the Sky+ box activated without a line connected.

Yes a second cable is required to run alongside the existing cable to the new quad lnb, which is included with the new box.

If you feel up to the challenge, install it yourself and save some money. You simply swap the single lnb for a quad, run the additional line in, seal the connections on the lnb, hook it up, ring Sky and away you go!

    Re: The phone line thing.

Even if you have an older connection (without the obligation to have a phone hooked up) - You'll still officially have to connect your Sky+ box to a phone line.

You don't actually need the line post installation day, but if Sky hear that you don't have it connected they'll give you all sorts of grief and warnings of disconnection (been there, done that, ignored them).

Best to order direct from sky - 0818 719 835.

Generally, do it yourself installations are a big no no. By doing it yourself, you are invalidating the warranty on any equipment, so if something goes wrong, ts. Best (and often cheapest in the long run) to get sky put in "professionally".

Are you for real? DIY is not a big no no , especially not for sky plus as no realignment is necessary. The warranty is not invalidated and it is definitely not cheapest in the long run, ask anyone who has taken a day off waiting for a sky installer who never showed.

Sky installers are definitely not professionals, they are poorly paid, badly trained and the quality control is non existant.

I really dont know how you formed this view, what is it based on?

I'll second Tonys comments. Sky installers tried to rip me off, l complained to Sky, but they were not interested. I installed a system myself, which was cheaper, no hassle and much quicker.

I'd seen that thread. I'm telling you what my experience has been. Sky told me (existing 'no phone' Sky account) that that I had to have the phoneline connected or else. That's the official line as it's been presented to me. I've chosen to ignore them, and don't seriously believe that they would forgo their monthly income from me on account of it, but it's still their official line.

    I'm basing it on this:

You get up to put the quad lnb on the dish. Firstly the quad lnb is a good bit heavier than the normal, so the dish focal arm is going to bend slightly, and if the dish was put up badly, the dish will no longer focus properly. You may even hit the dish off slightly when installing. What happens if you fall off the ladder? You'll have serious injury. If the sky installer falls, he'll have insurance , you won't pay and you won't be in any pain.

what happens if the sky installer falls on you, or sues you because the ground was wet?

You mentioned "if the dish was put up badly", by whom? sky installer perhaps?

Really this is no arguement against DIY installations.

I got a sky+ box just before Xmas. (best thing i ever did upgrading)

The one fault i have with it is the settings mode, example,
services, sky + setup, change recording time to start 5mins before prog.
tape 10 mins after prog (to make sure i get all the recording!! progs sometime start too early or late) and save settings. 30 mins later all settings reset themselves??

called sky about it , did all the usual things e.g. turn off, unplug, bla bla bla
    30 min later same thing!!!

    anyone else had this problem??

I suppose you're right Tony. I take my hat off to thee, good sir :D It was only that I was told by sky that "you need sky+ professionally installed, and doing it yourself is not recommended, and could invalidate your warranty". I guess sky was just bsing me. I wouldn't mind getting sky+ myself, since they are now doing the box for €299, and the installation is only a measly €10.

I changed to Sky+ at Christmas I've had a UK contract for 3 years (Sky world sports and movies) when activating asked about phone line and I was told it was not part of my contract. I got my box on Ebay and already had a quad LNB. Took 30mins to install.

No problem :D t'would be a boring forum if we agreed on everything. With the €10 install though does not really make sense to DIY. Alas i wont be doing these as Sky dont pay the balance for months and sometimes not at all.

Sky sound like a cheap shower of baxtards. Do you actually make € 15 out of a normal installation, or do you get the full €75? € 75, or even €100 per installation doesn't sound like very good money, considering sky make millions in profits every year. They seem to be really pushing the Sky+ though, all of the sunday newspapers have little handouts advertising new customers to sky get the box for €299 and €15 installation.

Well we get the balance between the promotion price and 75 euro (incl vat) . Its really the delay and the subsequent cash flow implications that kill it for us. There are also occasions where they say they are not paying because the customer was sent a duplicate contract and changed their mind on taking the full package.

They are very shortsighted as this attitude costs them a lot of sales as independents concentrate on selling other products.
