Would people recommend the following for general use and gaming? If not why not?

    Creative SBS270 speakers

    Microsoft Wireless Optical mouse

Regarding the mouse, from personal experience I wouldn't recommend this to a gamer. I got one but got pissed off with the smooth scroll wheel as it was WAY to sensitive, and the mouse drivers didn;t seem to have a way to adjust it. It meant that changing a weapon in something like UT meant lightly tipping the wheel, as pushing it made it scroll through all the weapons about 5 times.

To be fair, it's a great mouse for working wth documents and the like, and is very comfortable to use.

One more annoyance though. The new versions claim the batteries last about 6 months. Bull****. I got mine about a month ago and have had to change the batteries already (it stays on all the time, maybe I should take them out at night?).

From a gaming perspective I have heard the Logitech MX series is good. Would love the Bluetooth version, but v. pricey!

Yeah I have the logitech mx500. Best mouse i've ever used. There is a cordless version as well, the mx-700 I think it is. If your a lefty though forget it.

Yea exactly what the guys are sayin, im using the Microsoft Natural wireless keyb & mouse...... TBH the keyboard is fantastic but the mouse doesent compare to the mx700 series. Its also got the 2 other buttons for "back" and "forward" on web pages which is a very nice touch.

Totally agree about the batteries BTW, replace mine alot on the mouse.... could be worse!!

PS you mite try www.jes-computer.de , think there very cheap with the cordless option. Ohh and why not go for surround sound? 4.1 / 5.1 / 6.1 speakers? A little extra but there much better than those ones..... and www.creative.ie have free shipping.

Have one of those myself, and it's utterly brilliant altogether.

How does the scroll wheel feel on those MXs? Is it smooth or "clicky"? :)

Its smoother on the MX's than the clicky microsoft, ack now that you mentioned it its starting to annoy me !! lol never noticed that before.

Quite smooth on the MX700 anyway.

If it's the blue and silver one, don't get it. There's a problem with them - the clicks stop registering properly on many of them (it's a common problem with that kind, as google let me know), and I'm having mine replaced (by MS - so I hope it's not going to be the same one).

    I don't game, so I can't tell you what it's like gaming-wise.

    cheers

re the speakers - I dont really want a load of wires trailing round my desk and i'm not bothered about surround sound, just want good clear sound quality for music and dvd's

logitech is looking like the better option but the MS mouse looks sexy!

For sound i use my hifi amp and speakers works a treat and would recomend it to anyone!

If you have a (decent) hifi with a free aux(ilary) in put on the back of it then all you need is one of these stereo jack goes into sound card phone leads into the bach of your hifi and sorted!

have a microsoft wireless intellymouse explorer, cant complain about it really buttons on the side are handy browsing, programable in ut2k3 & 2k4, baterys do alway seem to go when i have none lying about!

Yea thats fair enough :) , can be annoying at times. The creative speakers are good quality, why dont you get the 4.1 inspire and leave the 4 speakers on your desk infront of you (ive them like that at the min) wires arent a problem at all.... they all plug into the bass box and a single cable goes to the PC. At the very least get the creative inspire 2.1 , both sets come with an inline remote (nicer on the 4.1's) and have very good quality sound.

€57 for the 4.1's and €39 for the other ones that dont look great.........
