Broken Digibox - what now?

    My digibox died today. Have tried powering off for a while and on again. No lights, but power is okay.
    What is my best option now, try to get it repaired or buy one second hand? I heard repairs are quite expensive.

    Why not try this!!!
    Ring $ky and tell them that you want to cancel and when they say why?? say the box is dead!!! if they say you have to pay x amount for a call out say look I've paid so much on subs I want another box FOC.
    It sometimes works!!!!

    As JD suggests ring sky and tell the you are cancelling, I would advise you not to ask for a box at this point instead just say you are cancelling because the box repair is too expensive, someone may ring you back after ten minutes and offer a replacement .

    Worth a shot

    It worked for me, just tell them your going to cancell because the box isn't worth getting replaced.
    It took about 2 weeks but it worked and I got a brand new box for free and no contract:D

    Eight months after I cancelled they offered me either 1/2 price for six months if I signed up for that as a minumum, or a replacement digibox if my box was broken..

    So they do on occasion offer replacement boxes. They more than likely will be "reconditioned" etc.

    If I had wanted Sky sub or a second box it would have been good value offer :-)

    Spoke to sky yesterday and they offer repair or replace for €180. I didn't cancel yet as a mate of mine had a box that I can borrow for a while. Rang sky again today and have to leave the box on for a few hours to match his box to my card. I might try the cancel option in a while.

    Thats what they offered me first too, but I just told him I wanted to cancel that its not worth getting an old box repaired for €180, Then the snotty sky monkey said you want to cancel Mr. XXXXX and I said yes. One moment sir I'll transfer you to a supervisor.

    Supervisor came on the line and said I believe you want to cancel your subscription Mr.XXXXX and I told him I don't want to cancel it but I'm not going to pay €180 for a call out and he replied that must be a misunderstanding the call out will be free of charge and sky will pay the fee (At last getting somwhere) but I told him I'm not going to pay for a repair of a old box that might break down next week and he said if the box was't fit for repair it would be replaced and I told him I'd be happy with that and I won't cancell.

    Two weeks later and sierras second missed appointment on they came saw the tuner in the old bix was ****ed wand replaced me with a brand new box instructions and all.

    Vicadd the key word to sky cancel I knew I was chancing my arm saying I would cancel but even if they said okay I'd just ring them up next day and get it back. I found the sky operator very snotty and not like the ones when you ring up for pay-per-view or box office.

    So if you want just ring them up again and don't take NO for a answer

    I did the same,my box died so I rang them to cancle my sub.They kept trying to get me to pay for a repair but I kept saying no I want to cancel.

    After 40 minutes and about 5 different people they agreed to replace my box!
