I got a Sony crx230e 52x cd writer a while ago and it and when using Ner 6.3.0.2 and 52x cds it burns at 40x. Does anyone have any pointers on how to get it to burn at 52 please?

    Thanx.

Make sure your CDs can cope with more than 40x, that's most likely what's wrong!

you know your talking about a 30 second difference between 40 and 52  I guess it might matter if you are publishing something :/

i'm resonably certain this will help....

    1) insert your blank cd
    2) Press and hold your eject button for 10 seconds (i.e. until the light flashes at you)
    2) Open up nero and see if the faster speeds are accessible.

Alternatively, flash your drive with Lite-on firmware, its what i did. Sony drives are physically identical to liteon drives, but with a different brandname on the front.

That worked Mutant_Fruit, 615MB and the clock stopped at 2:25.
I'll buy you a pint the next time I see ya, thanx.

that particular nugget of info took me a while to find out. I was rightly annoyed when my brand spanking new 48x/12x/48x sony didnt burn faster than 40x. Then i flased in the lite-on firmware, and made it 48x/24x/48x and also, it removed the stupid *must hold eject button to burn fast* feature.

It was later that i found out that holding the button makes it go faster.

How the hell does that work? Is that a LiteOn / Sony issue only?

nah unkle, the same thing was mentioned in the readme file that came with the firmware for my LG cdrw drive.
flashing the firmware also added the bonus feature of the drive not spinning up when you insert a disc, unless you try to access it.
    handeh:)

A lot of drives are firmware upgradeable too (Lite-On, Sony, HP, Aopen, Ricoh, LG).
You can upgrade speeds from 12x to 24x, 24x to 40x, 32x to 48x etc.

Here's a good place to check out your drive:
