I recently got wintv for my telivision, it's a pci card,I can now watch rte 1 and rte 2 on my computer. I bought an indoor ariel that has vhf and uhf on it, but I cant pick up tv3 or tnag.
    Any suggestions?
Does anyone know what the signal is for it. I am in Sligo town.

how strong are the signals for TV3 and TG4. chances are you may need an external aerial to pick these up. can you pick them up on a tv with the indoor aerial?

you may need to check the settings, tuning on cable should pick them up,

I have the same card if you don't get it I'l have a look when I get home tonight

no I mean cable under tunning settings,

Theres a few different tuning types, antenna/cable which basically means uhf or vhf

TV3 should come in under Channel 26 in cable broadcast mode.

    See pic attached

    Truskmore
    RTE1 (I) RTE2 (G) TV3 (60) TG4 (63)

There may also be a relay for Sligo town (dont know if it ever got upo and running) but it would only have RTE1 2 and TG4

The WinTV cards need a better signal than ordinary TV also the way they display "magnifies" the effect of noise. Also you are closer to screen which is MANY times sharper than TV set, so this too makes noise more visible.

Even for a good picture (equivalent to Satellite or DVD) on an ordinary TV, you really need an outdoor roof aerial.

Also cheap coax gets damp and absorbs most of the signal outdoors after a few years, so it is really worth it to use Satellite grade coax even for TV aerials.

A program called "Descaler" is brillient for PC WinTv and IULabs VCR is an excellent Recording program for Analog Win TV cards and also file transfer/camera control of Digital Camcorder on IEEE1394/iLink/Firewire. One of few firewire programs allowing full screen preview. I recommend free Huffy Codec for record at highest quality or install Showshifter of a demo magasine CD and use the MJPEG codec at about 5:1 compression. Realtime MPEG1 or MPEG2 capture is the pits for quality in comparison.

(You'll want NTFS disks and NT/Win2000/XP to analog capture more than 20 minutes at any sort of quality).

Most of the WinTV cards give superior picture quality on Win2000/XP compared with Win98/Me. NT4.0 is possible, but getting the correct drivers now is time consuming.
