First of all thanks for all the great help when I was getting set up with my dish. I am now facing astra 28E and have got about 30 channels all the bbc, Cnn, a couple of indian and a few travel.
QUESTION 1......Where can I find a list of FTA channels that are available. I have done the lyngsat thing but when I try to tune in what are marked as digital clear I only get some of them or sometimes none of them eg sky is marked as digital clear but will not tune in.
QUESTION 2......Is it worth putting a motor on the dish.

Where does Lyngsat have Sky marked as FTA?

Have a look here (grey box at the bottom of the page)

Full list of UK TV channels broadcasting FTA here (obviously without a motorised dish you'll just want the ones on Astra 2A/2B/2D/Hotbird1)

All 28E channels listed here (if it doesn't have an F next to it under "Video Encryption", it's not clear)

If you look at the bottom of the Lyngsat page, you'll see the colour key in use for:
analog clear, analog encrypted, D2MAC, digital clear, digital encrypted, interactive and feeds.

Also, if you look in the column marked Video Encryption, FTA channels are simply "DVB", while scrambled channels will also contain the encryption system e.g. "DVB Videoguard".

Sky NEWS is clear. Sky 1 and Sky Mix are encrypted.

I find Lyngsat has TOO MUCH information and prefer the simpler version Analoguesat maintains for us simpletons - http://www.geocities.com/digitalsatuk/astra2_28e.html

I went to " http://www.geocities.com/digitalsatuk/astra2_28e.html " and found all the info I needed you are right it is a lot easier to understand than lyngsat. The reason I couldnt find all the fta channels is that I had my reciever set to search for only fta channels and according to the reciever sky etc are scrambled even though they are clear. Again thanks for all the help.
