Digital Deal.. is this good?

    OK,

So I'm stuck at the mo (on northside) with Chorus Analogue service. My options going forward are to go digital with Chorus (cable service, reduced channels because of location, muppetry service etc.) or.. go sky digital (no UTV/C4 and extra for second TV).

I have no other options that I know of - so if you can think of one let me know. Otherwise here is the question...

The deal on offer at the mo is SKY Digital for 15 euro install, assuming full package for one month then tailored down to suit. For the second TV I'd need to get SKY+, which is another 299 for the box and 130 for the install.

Is this the only way for me to get 2 TVs and digital? Is it a good deal? Are there better deals or methods out there?

Opinions and suggestions greatly welcomed. Thanks in advance.

You can get a mirror sub on a second sky "mini-box" available here for €199 thats much less than the sky plus box.
Presumably you can get the Sky plus either but you will have to be on a higher end sub or pay the monthly fee.

You might get a cheaper second hand digibox for your mirror sub on ebay, but its not guaranteed and you do so at your own risk.
Having said that , I got one via that route and it's worked a treat for more than 3 years now.

    Coyote,
You need to ask yourself what it is you want from a sky set up.
If its basic TV in the living room with the option of going to bed and watching TV there its a fairly easy set-up (one box and one sat eye). If you want to watch TV in the L. Room and other family members(kids) watch TV in a different room-different station, with options for recording etc.. then sky plus would be worth it

Unless there's been some functionality changes to Sky+ tho, will he not need 2 boxes regardless if he wants to watch two different channels simultaneously?

In that case a 2nd digibox & the mirror sub is the best option (assuming you want to get rid of Chorus altogether and don't particularly care about the recording features of Sky+).

My own setup is NTL Analolgue and Sky Digital wired through both rooms but this means that only 1 Digital channel can be watched at a time in both locations (tho Analogue is always available).

No the Sky+ while it does have two tuners, physically only has 1 x MPEG2 decoder and Digital to Analog converter to drive TV, so no matter what Software Sky update it to all the TVs see the same channel.

If you want different channels at same time you need more than one receiver.

(if you only want BBC / FTA channels on second receiver, it need not be a Digibox).
