Three new channels have been added to the NTL Digital network in Dublin as part of the expansion plan which will add 20 to 30% extra channels in the next year. They are Cartoon Network on channel 620, Cartoon Network +1 on channel 621 and TMF (The Music Factory) on channel 709. TMF also launches today on NTL analogue from 7.00pm.

AFAIK there is a minimum 12 month sign-up period when you get ntl digital installed.

It's so ntl can say "oh look at us - the caring cable company. We're so thoughtful we added Cartoon Network for our lovely customers with kids for the easter holidays".

It;s a rubbish channel - powerpuff girls, beyblade etc. and the BFG!!! The BFG is an ANCIENT movie!!!

Btw. Does anybody have any word on when/if ntl are going to add more digital tv channels to their digital service in Dublin?

If I remember correctly someone noticed an article in the Irish Sunday Times, stating that NTL were going to increase the channel number by 30% by the end of the year. I couldn't find the article.

    Yep, that was me.

It was in the Business section of the Irish Sunday Times (quite a long piece) but I couldn't find the article on the online edition.

They were talking about having more foreign channels but also mentioned Eurosport and Sky Sports Xtra (if I remember correctly).

I'll believe that when I see it  NTL is still a long way behind sky, or even ntl uk/ni and telewest broadband though. They should completely shut down analogue, and go totally digital - sky did and now look at the hundreds of channels they have. They have loads of bandwidth too, so there is no pixelation like ntl. It would also mean more money for ntl to "develop" it's network.

If they were to shut down their analogue system they'd have to set up some sort of NTL+ system so people could watch one channel and record another. I think Irish people are too used to multichannel cable access where they can watch one show and tape another at the same time - take this away from them and there'd be uproar!

NTL's analogue system provides a service that is fine for most people, not everyone wants or needs digital TV.
