The makers of the new Harry Potter film sent letters to creators of many fan sites, asking them to surrender their domain names and offering as little as a calendar in compensation.

Any sites with 'Harry Potter' in the domain name were sent the strongly worded letters, which claimed the sites devalued and interfered with Warner Bros' right to the Harry Potter name. The company has acquired film and merchandising rights for the famous books by J. K. Rowling, and the first film is due to be released later on this year.

The corporation has now backed down, saying it regrets any 'misunderstandings' that may have been caused by their rather bizarre actions. The company withdrew from legal action against one 15 year-old fan, Claire Field.

Just to show there are 'no hard feelings', the corporation has now set up a Harry Potter Webring. All fan sites are invited to join, and you can get more information from the link below.

Kids always read books of great interest to anyone who cares look at them.
Case in point: Remember how great Roald Dahl books are?

maybe the kids bullied in this way should rename their sites after muggles or some of the other potter names that turn up in another authors work published ten years before jk rowling in protest...[the actual names are part of a lawsuit in court at moment but i am damed if i am gonna research a troll post]
Personally if the potter corp are so keen on intellectual property of names ...then dont steal other peoples names....wangers
