    FAT FREDDY'S DROP
Bank Holiday Sunday 2nd May at the HalfMoon Theatre.

So who the hell are Fat Freddy's Drop?
Well...for starters...the highly respected DJ magazine has named them as one of the "top 20 bands to watch for in 2004"...

Giles Peterson from BBC Radio 1 (and a regular visitor to Cork), loves them and has them in his top 20 tunes of 2003...
And another Cork favourite over the years, Laurent Garnier, loves their music..

    So...who are they???

Fat Freddy's Drop are a 7 piece live act born out of Wellington, New Zealand's live and independent music scene. It's the by-product of a scene steeped in dub, reggae and electronic music aimed at dancefloors. Fat Freddy's Drop are essentially a live band and are best known in New Zealand for their extensive late night live sets.

Fat Freddy's Drop starts with Fitchie (also known as MU)… he programmes beats on his Akai MPC and the jamming process starts there. Then comes Joe Dukie (Dallas) with those lyrics. The Fat Freddy's Drop sound is all about layers and that's where JetLag Johnson (Tehimana) on guitar and Dobie Blaze (Iain) on Keys come into the mix, and lastly comes the horn section: Fulla Flash (Warryn) on Sax, Suga Two-Tone (Toby Laing) on Trumpet and Hopepa (Joe Lyndsay) on Trombone… the horn section adds an old worlde jazz charm to the blues guitar, the 70's funk keyboards and the future sound of electronic dub.

The Fat Freddy flavour is rhythm heavy with coatings of jazz, soul and funk, rooted in Aotearoa and delivered with an island attitude.
Fat Freddy’s Drop have released one album in May 2001 - “Live at the Matterhorn”, and have a new album due in April 2004.

So now that you know who they are...don't miss the chance to see Fat Freddy's Drop live at the Halfmoon Theatre, Cork, on Bank Holiday Sunday May 2nd. Doors open at 11.30pm and tickets are €15 (available from the HalfMoon Box Office, tel: 021-4270022
