Argh!! okay this is driving me mad, id appreciate any and all help.
I think my gfx card is fux0red, its a radeon 9800 pro 128. Worked fine since i got it last october, but yesterday, when i booted my pc, i just got a constant 'beepbeepbeepbeep' and a warning message saying my 9800pro wasnt connected to the power supply. The card IS connected to the power supply tho, so i took out the card, checked it was hooked up, rebooted. Boots to the desktop, and i had to reinstall all the ATI drivers, and reboot. Card works fine. Went to play far cry today and as soon as i booted i get the same beeps and the error message. It seems to go in a cycle like this:

1)1st boot: Error message and beeping
2)take out card, check connections, put it back in. loads to desktop with ati drivers missing, reinstall drivers.
3)works fine. play some games, knock it off
    4)repeat step one.

I checked the connector on the gfx card, and i have to say it DOES look a little brown on one end, almost like heat scoring or something. Any advice appreciated!!!

    hehe schizo alright :)

Don't wanna sound patronising, but get the VERY latest drivers for both your mobo and the graphics card

I had this problem that lasted weeks that my pc was hanging booting into xp (before login screen) about 4 out of 5 times. I had no idea what was causing it and at first thought it was related to my overclocking the rig.

My xp installation was only a couple of months old and I always make sure I have very good and up-to-date firewall and virusscan settings. Generally I try and keep my rig very healthy indeed

After I installed the latest drivers (the ones installed before were only 4 months old) the problem was gone and has not represented since :)

I got the latest catalyst drivers before the problem started, so i went back tothe old ones, same problems. Ill try getting the mobo drivers tho, thanks :)

Sounds like a PSU problem, especially since it happens on cold boot.
What PSU do you have? Have you added/changed any components lately?

are u daisychaning anything off the radeons power connector, or is it daisychained off anything.

if so make sure the gfx card is as high up on the chain as poss.

Ive got one of those ****ty codegen psu's. Well i whipped out the card again and had a look at it, apparrently the connector was a tad loose and had created an arc of some sort, and had cause some heat scoring around the connector. My dad took a look at it (hes an electrician so even tho he wouldnt know a 9800pro if it bit him he knows electrics) and he tightened the connectors, and its running fine now. Thanks everyone :D Ill be back when it goes on fire.
