Catch 22 with Vodafone after transfer of ownership

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any advice or experience of this situation. I left my company last week and they agreed to transfer my work number to me. They even let me keep the phone. I went into the vodafone shop over the wekend to enquire about an upgrade and they said that because it was a transfer, it was effectively a new connection and I would have to wait 12 months. They said to check this with customer care tho as they sometimes will put the upgrade back on the line.

I rang customer care and the operator confirmed that I would have to wait 12 months and suggested my only option was to buy a ready to go phone and transfer the sim. I reminded him that I was within the cooling of period for the transfer so I my other option was to cancel and move the number to O2 instead! (actually not sure if this is possible - a transfer from corporate vodofone to personal o2?) I asked for his supervisor who stuck to his guns. I pointed out thats it a catch 22 - I can't get an upgrade cos its deemed to be a new connection but I also can't get a new connection subsidised phone cos it not really a new connection! Nightmare :)

I asked for his boss but she's not in until tomorrow, so I await her call.

Anyone have any ideas as to how I might proceed? I have allready left the company so its last resort to cancel the transfer and ask them to uprgade it for me - not sure I have that much neck :)

Your best option is to do what you said. Cancel the Transfer and switch to O2.

There is no problem switching from a business or corporate account to a personal with O2, but there is a section on the application you will have to get your company to sign to authorise it.

It's the only way you'll get a handset subsidised at this point.

Can't see why not ... Call Vodafone (or any network) and they'll send you a transfer of ownership form. It's a new 12 month contract though and all upgrade eligibility (if any) will be lost as Phibsboro found out.

    Hi,

Just to finish this thread, I did actually get the upgrade put on my number. I had to escalate through two levels and stick to my guns for while but they did it eventually. I think two things swung it for me - one was that I within the cooling off period for the transfer and two was the spend my previous company had had.

So I'm delighted with myself now - I'm thinking of the Z600 from Sony/Ericsson.

Fair play, always best to stick to your guns in those sort of matters.
To be fair the guys at the top usually know when to give in.
