If some of your PC's or Macs have firewire then stick one of These in the 'centre' of the network and get between 400Mbits and 800Mbits speeds .

You must assign the IP addresses manually but it fairly zips along and is cheaper than Gig E in many cases as the card acts like a hub (not a switch , a hub) and a card at the same time .

/Me is very happy with meh 3 PC and One Mac rig at the mo .

Apart from having 3 connections per card, whats the advantage vs chaining a group of GigE PCs together with straight cables (GigE doesnt need crossover)? How does it handle packet size (MTU, and so called "Jumbo Frames"). GigE is pretty crappy in this regard.

I used to use Firewire (400Mbps) and switched to GigE. Each has their share of problems, but Im still on GigE.
