    I was re-installing my ATI catalyst and when I rebooted, I get this message just before XP bootscreen appears:

    Invalid BOOT.ini file
    Booting from C:\Windows

    When I opened the boot.ini its empty. How do I fix this? I rather not have this message when I am booting. Its not stopping my pc fromm booting but its just annoying.

    Thanks.

    Type the following into the boot.ini

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional"

    Thats it...

    Thanks joePC

    I copy and paste that to my boot.ini file and now whenever it boots, its giving me which option that I want to boot with. The two options I get:

    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS=

    Windows (default)

    How do I fix this now? :)

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    joePC's suggestion is correct. It should only give you one option. Through control panel, you might want to decrease the timeout to maybe 2 or 3 seconds so it's not really slowing down your boot up time :)

    Well its still giving me the boot option. My boot file should be in C:\ right? Not in C:\Windows?

    Yep C:\ is the right place for boot.ini if you want to get rid of the multiple options at boot time right click on your My Computer icon go to Advanced and then to Startup and Recovery; in there you should be able to choose which OS you want to boot - and to get rid of the timer thing.

    I fixed the dual boot thing. The last line should be:

    ulti(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

    Its booting fine now. Thanks everyone.
