Not meaning to piss in your cornflakes, but i played a gig with them years ago before they got well known. Even back then they were arrogant pompous assholes. And they were s*ite to boot.

And Mark was at one of our Whelans gigs, and he seemed very full of himself, surely standing dead centre of the dance floor is the best way to avoid attention eh, you wanker!

I think jj72 are one of the worst bands to come out of Ireland EVER. They're just atrocious, over rated, whiney private school drivel, and their lyrics read like something a disaffected 16 year old would pass off as poetry.

And don't get me started on that idiots voice..

Sorry if i'm late on this one... but JJ72 Really really suck a donkey's d**k!!!!

I was talking to the female lead singer guy... work it out ya self! he he, but yeah, pompous ass bandit seems the best word to describe him.
    Their music???

People, if they are a reflection of Irish Rock.... Shoot me!!!!!

They are rich kids with their parents instruments and they should be hung at O'connell St Spike along with "The ****ing Thrills" and the like!

    Viva the revolution!!!!

Can't wait till Ireland produces a real Rock Band, something to match Lizzy!!!

    It will happen soon!

    ps... JJ72 suck!!!!!
    heheheehehehehhehheehhe ha

Who did they replace Hillary with? Her twin sister*? :)

I'm not a JJ72 fan at all, but I have to admit one or two of the tunes off the first album were catchy. Mark Greaney has good control over his voice, but singing falsetto like that ALL the time is just overkill.

As a singer, I'm always amazed at people who sing in what's not their natural voice, i.e. trying to sound like someone.

"Put on" voices work on occasion, but only in very particular situations (Tom Waits in "God's Away On Business" from his Blood Money album...).

And yeah, I've heard off a good few people that Greaney is a ludicrously pompous tw*t. Just what is it he's so pompous about anyway? :)

    -S

*She does actually have a twin sister! Greaney was going out with the twin and taught Hillary to play bass, hence the simplicity of them all...

Well i guess if I was in a terrible, whiney, piss poor band id have something to be pompous about too. "Look, i can whine in a falsetto voice better than you can! wAaAAaaaAAAaaaAAAAAahhhHH something about deeeEEeeeathhhhh!!"

They need to listen to something that rocks and then come back when theyve grown a pair.

Careful now Deadwing, you don't wanna go changing their style...

Actually, I would be more a fan of letting people listen to / compose whatever they feel like. Doing otherwise on means you're being untrue to yourself.

Besides, if they keep going the way their going now, they'll disappear into oblivion.

And hopefully, it'll be really clammy there... :)

ah jj72, i think they are a pretty great band, sure they go on the less is more thing i think anyone who makes it somewhat big in ireland has all this hatred , its called "hansard syndrom".............but yeah jj72 deserve their success, if over 2 million people think they are good and with such prolific fans as Billy Corgan, Bret Anderson, James Dean Bradfield, Dave fanning(lol). there must be something there..............they are nothing like they thrills, cmon southside foxrock the thrills...........northside Clontarf JJ72......and just because your parents didnt send you to a jesuit school!
he may sing like a girl, but he has one of the most distinctive voices ive ever heard, and it seems pretty natural to me, his lyrics are a bit pretentious but they have meaning to him, listen to westlife if you want lyrics written for you

    yeah anyways end of rant

and if people think im some mad jj72 fan defending my fav band, well no im not. ive a wide range of music, rory gallagher, thin lizzy, joy division.pumkins, jeff buckley, pink floyd
damien rice, muse, manics, seude, REM,outkast, radiohead
metallica, a perfect cirlce, faith no more, alice in chains

if you want a **** falsetto novelty band, listen to the darkness

Pompous or not, it is nice to see an Irish band doing something abroad, I don't think they're amazing but they're not entirely shyte either. It is sad to see Irish people knocking their own constantly. Can't we be happy for those who do meet with success?

    Support your local band.

    hansard's a muppet!

and that syndrome of yours is stupid. all bands have lovers and haters... when they get more fans they inevitibly pick up people who don't like them...

although in saying that you have to wonder what anybody sees in bands like the frames, the revs and the thrills... i saw the 3 of these bands before they got famous and never liked any of them! especially the thrills...

as for good irish bands that have a bit of recognition... there are plenty... turn, mundy, snow patrol, bell x1, future kings of spain (incidentally the first time i saw FKOS was supportting jj72 in the olympia 3 or 4 years ago)

and plenty that derserve recognition... berkeley, x-constant, fairuza, label, goodtime john, polar, the 66e (all really really good irish bands!)
