I'm thinking about buying an Acer Aspire 1500 series laptop, probably the LMi model. Does anyone have any experience with their laptops / with this laptop in particular / with this reseller (this site is not owned by Acer)!

    The specs are quite sweet:

    AMD Athlon 3000+ processor
    1Mb Level 2 cache
    512MB DDR
    60GB hard drive
    DVD-RW dual drive
    Floppy drive
    15" TFT display
    64MB ATI Radeon 9600
    Internal 56k Modem
    Wired LAN 10/100/1000
    Wireless LAN 11g
    3 in 1 Card reader
    Li-lon battery
Microsoft Windows XP Home, Norton AntiVirus, CyberLink Power DVD, NTI CD-Maker
1 year warranty upgradeable to 3 years collect and return policy including accidental damage cover for only £99!

My dad has one. No problems. Nice machine.
Has the same DVD writer and it works fine.
My only complaint is that perhaps the screen is a little dark with the power disconnected.
I would reccoment them to be honest.
    Pretty cheap and quite good.

Well I've ordered one today. Costing me €1650 approx (with 3 year warranty etc). UK Exchange rate is a killer atm .64 :(, but at least I got the vat off (buying through my company).

Apparently it achieves a score of ~10,000 in 3dmark 01, so for once I'll be able to have some fun on my laptop ;)

Quite excellent to be honest. The processor slows down to 800mhz for battery operation, but is still extremely nippy (all 3d games are very playable). The wireless range is excellent (I receive between "very good" to "excellent" signal ratings throughout my house). I haven’t tested the dvd burner, but it’s a pioneer so I’m sure it works fine. Boot times and build quality are excellent. The battery lasts much longer than I expected. I’m very impressed with my first A64 cpu and my first Acer laptop.

    **** thats a laptop????

lol thought it was a full size comp,
pretty good specs i must say, although i im not sure about xp home on a machine like that.

my mate had an acer before, not quite that spec but was pretty good, he still uses it to go to lans and still ticking with no problems.

As far as I know, the only difference is that XP Pro allows one to use Domains. Thats not really an issue at home for me. I could always stick XP Pro on it if I wanted to.

Where do you send it when something goes wrong? And does the warranty cover you internationally?

I bought one last week and am really really thrilled with it.

Elara currently have the model I bought on offer and its well worth the money.

Acer have a good reputation as afar as laptops go, they're top 5 in the world now.

I got the 1501LMi and it flys along, the 800MHz is default setting and you can change the settings to get it to 1800MHz (I've been told).

It is a little on the heavy side and doesn't have the option of connecting a second battery but the battery life is surprisingly long, just under 3 hours for me so far.

Sounds is decent, lots of USB ports (4) and the screen quality is excellent for a laptop, best I've seen.

Grab it now is my advice,
