    ead-day ing-way?

    try tweak XP for a full solution
    http://www.tweakxp.com/

    or if registry editing is your thing:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    is where they're all hiding

    get autoruns from ntinternals

    in addition to the area mentioned above it lists 17 other main areas in the registry where stuff starts - and shows a few startup folders as well

    there is also services in control panel

    Golden Rule - if you are not sure what something is - leave alone.

    Goldern Rule #2 - before you disable a service - stop it - that way if your system crashes you have some chance of getting back into windows.

    The comprehensive answer is this, they're hiding in 4 places:

    Startmenu -> Programs -> Startup

    In the registry (run: Regedit)
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

    In the control panel
    Administrative Tools -> Services and if it's under automatic, it's starting at startup. Be careful about what you disable in there though, you could f**k your computer up quite badly.
