File-sharing question

    There's a good few Bit Torrent sites about the place but one of them is particularly good (the one similar to the oasis song *****nova). I've got a few (legit) apps off it recently as the download speeds are excellent.

    I was wondering today though how exactly they are able to stay up and running? There is a lot of not so legit files available and it seems they would be a prime target from the authorities to get it shut down. Same goes for all the sites that host the P2P programs. I'd imagine that the arguement there is that they are provided for all those users who wish to share legimate files etc (yeah sure.....)

    How exactly can these sites be maintained?

    Just something that got me thinking.

    aha! ok i guess this is a workaround in theory but will hardly last will it? most P2Ps usually get shutdown or restricted within about 2 years but there always seems to be something to replace it.

    napster -> bearshare -> audiogalaxy -> Kazaa -> WinMX -> Bit Torrent.

    that's my order anyway.
