I have a Tekram IR adaptor that connects to my pc via USB....I want to use it with my phone to backup my contacts, add new ringtones etc....Only problem is that the pc won't detect the phone and vice versa....anyone have any experience with this or know where I could get some information....

I had a similar problem with a generic IR dongle in XP and my Nokia - the phone would be detected but the device would 'move out of range' almost immediately, without me moving either the phone or the dongle!
I fixed the problem by going into Device Properties for the dongle in Device Manager, and changing what I seem to remember was (not in front of that PC at the moment) the access protocol - there was a choice of five, and it was trial and error as to which one worked.
Let me know if you need more detail on this, I can post more when I get to that PC.

Yeah there are a few options in there alright but I couldn't get any of them to work....should XP report that the phone is connected?

Try changing the baud rate in the device manager to 9600. That solved the problem with my 7650. A friend had the same problem with a different IR adaptor and that solved it too.

XP should definitely detect a wireless link and one of those 'bubbles' will pop up from the taskbar asking if you want to transfer files to the new 'computer' its detected. Let us know how you get on tonight so!

a rate of 38400 worked like a bloody charm for my nokia 6100.

thanks guys. saved me €35 on a data cable :D

Well I got it to detect it briefly last night when I dropped the connection to 9600....it seems well shaky though as I was playing around with dropping in a ringtone through the pc suite and it kept dropping the connection without the phone having moved....this requires some work yet methinks....

the same happened to me so I upped the rate to 19600...not great either and 56400 wasn't picking it up.

so 38400 was the last option which was perfect

Aaargh....it won't even detect it now again even with the same settings that worked the first time....this is annoying....
