I had one of these (well, different model, the 4000 I think) about 7 or 8 years ago in a couple of workstations in work. We were doing alot of 3D reconstructions and visualisations with 3D Studio and the like, so at the time they really were the dogs. They had really good OpenGL support and loads of texture memory. I think the ones we had had 64Mb standard memory with another 96Mb dedicated to textures. Took an AGP and PCI slot and were about 14 inches long. Used to play Quake on it too :D.

I can't imagine what people would be doing that the higher end ATI and NVidia cards wouldn't handle, apart from really complex modelling. 512Mb RAM gives plenty of room for throwing numbers about...

Oh, it also handles 3D glasses, probably the shutter type, again very useful for visualisations for things like visual impact assessments.

Don't see why you couln't play a few games too :)

I think they are for Video/graphic/Design usage and multi-display (dual DVI), they have a very low clock speed (370MHz), but loads of memory. Not for gaming really, probably really good for Graphic applications.
