I am making backup copies of DVD's and I find that when playing back most of the backups the picture freezes at various times some recover so do not.Does anybody know what causes this and is there a way around it.
I am using a normal dvd burner , DVD x software, cheap blank dvds and cheap dvd player.
    Thanks in advance

Could be a number of problems.
    DVD videos are very finicky.
Certain DVD media will work perfectly on some dvd players yet struggle on others.
Does the backup play fine on the PC ?
If so it is generally due to the dvd player .
If it doesnt work on the pc it is either a media or burning software problem.
What discs are you using ?

What I notice is that when I play my backups on my dvdplayer they'd play fine first time even second time but then they could go like you said. It's probably due to the way they're burnt, but they probably never be as stable as originals because they are pressed on rather than burnt on.

    Ritek discs are the best.
You can get 25 of them off www.pricestorm for 22.50 euro inc p+p.
I used to use Bulkpaq Orange.
They work perfectly on a PS2 but skip on my Thomson Dvd player.
    Ritek work perfectly on both.

The Bulkpaq dvdrs have gone bad since Christmas - using over 3GB of the disc is a lottery. The outside of the disc seems very dodgy sometimes it's fine but it's mostly bad.

Anyone know a place in town to buy DVD-R or DVD-RW in proper DVD boxes for under 5 euro?

Be much cheaper to get the DVDs from Pricestorm and the boxes from PCN

Thanks steM, They're really cheap there alright but I don't have a credit card.

Anyone know a shop in town where I can get blank Dvds in proper boxes in Dublin city centre for a good price?

I got cases and blanks from www.pcn.ie . They operate from a business unit in Dublin 8, so you have to ring to arrange collection
