ok.. i started a new job about 8 weeks ago.. now i'm only a temp, i'm employed by richmond recruitment and work on behalf of them for a well known telecoms company in customer service..

on good friday the company i work for are only having a skeleton ''crew'' because it won't be busy because most places will be closed, and they were looking for 6 'volunteers' to work and in return get 2 days off in lieu(they dont pay overtyime for some strange reason so they give people paid time off instead)..

i volunteered thinkin ''cool, 2 days off in return''.. but now they have told me that good fri is not a bank holiday, its just a public holiday at the employers discretion.. and they rang richmond recruitment who said that me(and other temps, 5 in all) were not entitled to a day off.. we HAVE TO work with nothing in return..

so there is 5 of us who HAVE to work with no days off in lieu and 1 volunteer who happens to be permenant who WILL get two days off in lieu and i personally think that is a load of ****... we all do the same job ffs and we are not gettin treated the same, or fairly imo.. is there anything i can do AT ALL.. ??? please say yes!!

Good Friday is not a public holiday. It's just a bank holiday.

Isn't a Public Holiday and a Bank Holiday the same thing.
I thought Good Fiday was just a church holiday.

The banks are shut, which is why most businesses are also shut.
On other 'church' holidays (like all saints day or summat) the banks are
open therefore they are not considered bank holidays.

Good Friday is considered to be a bank holiday because all the banks close on that day, even though it is actually a church holiday.

Purely Company discretion to give it off or not. Because you dont really work for the company you work for richmond recruitment (Who prolly pay your salary) the company rules dont apply to you so they are well within their right.
