It depends on your source file. If the source file is too big, you would probably need to fit it to 2 CD's. You could try to compress it but you would lose a lot of video and audio quality. Try VirtualDub, its free and its great at compressing avi files.

You could do either. Again it depends on the source file. But you will need to convert the files. 1 VCD Cd could probably fit about 30-50 minutes depending on quality while DVD would be able to fit about 90-120 minutes, again depending on quality. It would however take longer to convert to DVD than VCD.

This site has a wide rage of DVD players and their compabilities. Check your DVD player out.

probably your best choice would be divx if you have it. if not you can get it and a host of other video jigahoolery at www.doom9.org the latest one is 5.1.1 but any above 3 will serve you well. when you select compression, select divx and click configure. theres a little quality bar there to fiddle the quality around there.

Sorry briben, I've never used VirtualDub to compress video, only audio. Maybe you can search in DVDRhelp's forum.

if you;re trying to compress into VCD or SVCD compatigle video, then use TMPGEnc. That is built for this kind of thing, and gives as good quality as you can expect. 5 stars for this proggy!

    go to http://www.dvdrhelp.com

they have guides that will give you step by step instructions.

Most dvd players will not play .avi files. If you want to play it on a dvd player that cannot, either dvd, vcd or maybe svcd (depending on the player). And tmpgenc is the way to go.
