Sand

I got some sand from the dunes in Sutton, a fair bit away from the water. I washed the sand several times and let it dry out completely. I've got some of it in a bowl to hold incense sticks, but I was wondering if it were "safe" to use to repot some cactus I have. It bothers me that the cactus is potted with mostly peat, which isn't "natural". But I wouldn't want to kill my baby with salt or anything.

The baby in question is a large fishhook barrel cactus, shown here.

Isn't it illegal to take sand from beaches?

    It is what it's.

I'd say the sand you found in Sutton is a lot different from the deserts of Nevada of wherever the cactus is from.
