Looking for a 2nd hand film scanner

I have about 1,000 slides I want to scan to my computer. I was wondering if any one could direct me to resources where I could get a resonably priced film scanner. Are there any Irish online photo equipment stores ?

I had a simillar request, a year and a half ago...

Got sorted by one of the lads on Boards (who will probably read this?!), who rented me one for a week or two...

Only advice I can give you, is that allow a bloody long time to do 1,000 slides... im my case, it was a Christmas present for my ol' dear.. I spent every waking hour of a week of my Chrismas holidays scanning the damn things!

Also, get a can of compressed air, for blowing the dust off the slides.. and a light brush...
    and loads of beer...
    and a pack of cards..
    and a few good books..
    and a jigsaw.

    That was me.
If you (por) only want a scanner for the 1000 slides you have (rather than want one on an ongoing basis) I would consider renting out my Canon FS4000US, if you cannot rent a film scanner somewhere else.
Thankfully, this one is a bit faster* than my previous scanner (Minolta Dimage Scan Dual) which my brother now has (and coincidentally I think he's looking to sell it).

*It has both SCSI and USB interface. The SCSI mode is quick, the USB mode slow.

    Samson
I would be interested in renting the Canon FS4000US from you and just start plowing through the 1,000 or so slides. How can I contact you ?. Also how much is your brother looking for the Minolta Dimage Scan Dual, does it have both SCSI and USB ?

How did you find the Minolta, Samson? I've just bought a new Scan Dual IV through an American eBay store. Including shipping it came to $340, roughly 280euro.

    por,

    My email address is samson[at]ireland[dot]com.
Not sure how much my brother would, I'll check and get back to you. It's a SCSI only model.
    Burago,

I found the Minolta to be a decent buy, certainly compared to what I was using previously, even though it didn't have dust/scratch removal etc. which meant slides had to be very clean before scanning.
According to most reports I've read, the current batch all have very good spec. and now include ICE (or equivalent) and are good value for money.
The Scan Dual IV for €280.00 was a pretty good deal, it's €378 ex. shipping from our friends in Germany.

I underestimated the shipping cost. It's actualy costing me 315 including shipping. :(

Heh, our friends in germany are normaly hard to beat but I've noticed some real bargains with these American eBay stores.
