I cut a branch from a tree in my garden last week that had to go cos it was dangerously hanging over into the neighbours. Brack was about 3" diameter where I cut it. It seems to be dripping sap since then. Is this ok and will it stop or do I have to treat it?

should be ok, sap on trees acts in the same way as scabs on broken skin, they protect the wound from infection.

Sap is the tree's equivalent of blood. You cut it, it's bleeding. You might want to treat it if you don't want a branch to regrow to what it was.
