Help, What Do I Do Know ???

Back in January I ordered a new FTV card from freetoview for my UK digibox which I bought on Ebay. The new card worked fine until recently when I got an error message saying that the card was not authorised.

I phoned the call centre (Sky I think) and they sent me a new card to a work colleague's UK address.

He forwarded it onto me so then I had to call Sky? again to authorise the card. This time when I called they sussed that I was calling from Ireland and they said that I should call them from a UK land-line which does not have it's number withheld.

I can't really ask my UK work colleague to phone Sky from UK so I wonder does anyone have any suggestions so that I can get my ITV, C4 and C5 back.

I also wonder do they now have it recorded that I called from Ireland last time and would this effect things?

Thanks in advance for any help

    Max

How did you manage to get a FTV card sent in the first place? I thought they were not being issued anymore?

Although www.free2view.tv closed at the end of Jan, they still maintain a phone line for problems with already issued cards and this is where you may have run into difficulty, as previously it was a call centre with loads of operators, but now its just a line with only a few or even one operator and they probably notice things a lot more.

Your best bet would be to try and get your source to make the call for you but I do not know if this will work either, by the way, did they actually accuse you of being in Ireland?

You could try using all the usual excuses ie you are calling from work and the number is witheld etc etc, but this is a tricky one now as they may have your details on record.

When the call centre was running, people sometimes encountered a stickler of an operater who insisted on a non witheld number, but a call to a less strict operater usually resolved the issue at a later stage.

Did you try leaving the card in the box for a few days to see if it will self activate?

Your UK contact is the best option.

    Thanks for your help.

She asked me where I was calling from and I told them I was in Birmingham (where my UK contact lives). She then said that her system was showing that I was calling from the republic of Ireland. I denied that but it got me nowhere.

She stressed that I must call from a UK land-line with my number NOT Withheld. I did get some encouragement from the fact that she suggested that I should call back at all.

My card has been in the box all the time since I received it which is a couple of weeks now.

I will see if I can get my contact in UK to call them.

    Thanks again.

No problem Max, let us know how you get on in case anyone else has similar problems.

Make sure to give your collegue all the details including operating system version, epg version, serial no, etc etc to be sure he can answer any queston they may throw at him

    Good Luck!

P.S. Sort an excuse out with him also as to why he called from Ireland, just in case they quiz him.
