    Does anybody know of a decent, free UML drawing tool? That doesn't print watermarks on everything...

    Rational Rose ($$) is utter ****. Poseidon, argo, etc all have limitations (Watermarks,etc.). I'm just wondering is somebody aware of something better? Or at best, i'd be willing to pay .. just not extorsionist amounts..

    <rant>

    Thanks in advance.

    There's one called ProxyDesigner
    http://www.proxysource.com/Home.asp

    I don't know how good it will be for you though, but you can't go wrong as it is free. I've used it before and it done the job.

    Commercial version of Posiden doesn't print watermarks, anyway the watermark is a background, not in the design.

    There is one for eclipse as well. look on the plugin sites.

    aye,but it looks **** (even in the background).

    There's one called Dia that comes with Red Hat Linux that isn't too bad, and you can also get a Win32 version.

    Its generally accepted (among all the programmers I know anyway) that Microsoft's Visio is the best of the lot, but obviously, you have to pay through the nose.

    There's a fairly comprehensive list, free and non-free at
    http://www.objectsbydesign.com/tools/umltools_byPrice.html

    I use Enterprise Architect for my own diagrams, and find it pretty good when you don't need all the heavy duty stuff.
    There is a trial version, and if you collect CDs from PC mag's you might find an old version that you can use/ upgrade from.

    I don't agree with the Visio recommendation, even the MSDN Universal supplied version ain't great in my eyes, despite liking VS.net 2k3.

    Those with corporate/academic backing and a choice, that I talk to, go with Together UML... but they're not spending their money.

    i've looked at Dia (+another one that comes with kde-can't rememeber the name at the moment) - not quite as good as visio - which in turn isn't that great.. I'm working my way through http://www.objectsbydesign.com/tools/umltools_byPrice.html atm

    Thanks for the recommendations. :)
