What's the Type 2 game like?

I've been a casual player since late Masques block, but I've never played in any tournaments. If I were to start playing at Standard events by Fifth Dawn, what kind of investment would I need to make, in terms of time and cards?

I have some good white/black cards from Onslaught block (Withered Wretches and such), as well as a decent blue Affinity deck and a more quirky green/black Power Conduit deck. What's the current Standard metagame like? I've heard it's heavy on artifact hate - is an Affinity deck viable?

A good affinity deck, i.e. one running 4 Arcbound Ravager's is pretty much the best your going to get for T2 meta game.

In terms of money, a brand-spanking new Ravager affinity deck will cost somewhere in the region of $304. Thats the full deck mind and you need to do some playtesting with it after that to get some kind of idea as to how to play it properly.

After that you have pretty much as good of a chance of coming out on top as any other player.

whered you get that figure of 304 from ivan? By my reckoning its around 120 euro, with the vast majority of that going on skullclamps, glimmervoids and arcbound ravagers. Everything else in ravager affinity is very cheap. The price could go up to 150 if you're running 4 blinkmoth nexi but many ravager decks don't. btw i arranged a trade for 4 clamps today and now i have all the cards i need for my ravager deck ^_^ I might go to the last minute grinders for the nationals after all :)

In my considered opinion, I'll stick to Apprentice! (Or earn some money before moving to the big city in the autumn, by which time there will be a new game... Bliss.)

Actually I have the foundation of Ravager Affinity already, though it's divided up between my main Affinity deck and a Cleric deck at the moment. But those Ravagers...

The $304 comes from www.sideboard.com When you register it opens an area that lets you see specific stats for decks. Such as the ratio of land:colour:artifact and the ratio of instants:artifacts:creatures:artifacts:lands:sorceries Also it has a nice casting cost section and a rough approximation of the cost of the deck based on the prices they charge for each card, if sold sperately from their site.

    their prices must be insane.
here's the total cost of a regional winning ravager deck from otherrealms:

    4 Great Furnace 0.75
    4 Vault of Whispers 0.75
    3 Glimmervoid 32.85
    3 Blinkmoth Nexus 22.50
    4 Darksteel Citadel 0.75

    4 Arcbound Worker 0.75
4 Disciple of the Vault 0.50
    4 Arcbound Ravager 63.80 :*(
    4 Frogmite 0.50
    4 Myr Enforcer 0.75
    4 Ornithopter 1.40

    4 Skullclamp 16.00
    3 Welding Jar 0.75
    2 Electrostatic Bolt 0.75
    1 Scale of Chiss-Goria 0.50
    4 Shrapnel Blast 3.00
    4 Pyrite Spellbomb 0.75

thats a total cost of 147.05 euro or $177. Very expensive, but nowhere near $304
Don't think i'll ever be caught buying cards from them :)
