How do you get the width of a window? ... I'm trying to colour but I don't want the colour to keep on going ... as it crashes .. I'm trying to stop it at the windows edge.

any suggestions on how to get the window co-ordinates?

I don't know specifically about MFC, but you could look at the GetWindowRect and more specifically GetClientRect API functions.
