I'm just finishing second year of the Computer Applications course in C.I.T. I'ld be very grateful if someone could give me some advice on areas I should be looking into now in order to enhance my job prospects when I graduate.

Try picking up additional certs http://www.tqtraining.com/classroom_pricing.htm that will give you to edge over other graduates when looking for a job.

well it was part and parcell with my degree (which im still doing)
BSc software dev and computer networking also in CIT
I only had to pay for the exam and i even got a voucher for that so it came to 35 euro or something
CCNP is going to be next on the line for me as 3rd year networking was more or less taken from that(isdn, frame relay, ospf etc) so i kinda know what to expect

also 3 grand for the CISSP!?!?
    they are way over priced,
just buy a book for 50 euro and study it at home and get some simulators so you can practice the labs, although i have no idea where to get ccnp, cissp simulators but there must be some out there:cool:

check out htis link it will tell you the top certs out there to get but eyeing yourself up for a CCIE is too much , start small and build up your certs that way, thats my opinion anyway

Top 10 IT certs out there!

Start reading books .... Employers like to see things where it shows that you've taken your own initiative...

I read a couple of "Teach Yourself XXXXXX in 21 Days" and put them down on your CV. It doesn't mean you are an expert on whatever but it does show the person sitting across the desk that you are capable and motivated.

Someone posted a URL a while ago of a place that lets you sit the test alone.

id rather have practical exposure with a ccna than a braindump one, isnt that the reason why there was a slump in IT jobs : underskilled graduates

There was a slump in IT jobs because the economy went down the toilet. Nothing to do with underskilled graduates.

Being undercut by firms from India and China didn't help. (Speaking from experience:( )
