TMF is the new channel on NTL after Nick.

    Who runs this station?
Who gave this station its licence?

No info on The broadcasting Commissions Website.

TV3 where looking for this licence awhile ago hence the 3CUBED at night.

Can you get this station in Waterford or Galway?

Can you get this station on Sky or Chourus?

    Anyone????

It's been on Sky for a long long time (ch448). I assume that they don't need a broadcasting licence given that it's only available on cable and satellite. If they need any kind of licence they got it in the UK and it doesn't affect TV3 applying for anything including bankrupcy.

Ah for god sake I thought it was going to be an Irish Cable channel.

What A waste just give the people who want EuroSport and TV5 back those channels.

Me thinks that the whole licence for Cable and Sat from the BCI is never going to happen and why would it ever happen when we have all the brit channels as Cable.

    FFS

Yes, it is MTV. At least its a music channel, look what MTV has turned into, ffs.

I agree MTV is now just awash with faux reality shows. As a terrestrial TV bloke I don't have the many other MTV channels & to be honest I miss just plain videos ad nauseam.

MTV is just a complete waaste of bandwidth IMO. At least with TMF on the ntl analogue service we'll finally see the return of some music. :)

if MTV were to show things once a week then it would be bareable. i have come across the same episode of Viva La Bam every night since Sunday. whats the point in that. some carmen electra thing too is on the whole time. i miss my multiple versions of MTV. at least TMF will have music but i am almost sure i have seen things like spongebob squarepance on that before. do they show it?

TV3 took Music cubed off air, because the server which was running it was unable to handle the amount of new videos being inputted and also as there was only the person in TX left to look after all the SMS messages. They Are bringing it back in May from 2am till 7am and will have same content and same Text msgs etc... But will have different gfx and a new Server with more Video choice. TV3 never went for the License on ntl chanel though, although they do have 2 digital channels planned to come on air in september one being News based and the other Movies based.

Absolutely! VH1 & VH2 are the best stations for music now. MTVs crown is slipping.

I agree, though VH1 and VH2 are owned by MTV, which in turn is owned by Viacom.

ARRGH, please don't say that. :dunno:

TMF is run by MTV. It was better when it started out with pure videos. As someone already mentioned, in the evenings it repeats ALL the same junk; Real World, Newlyweds,Cribs etc.
MTV can't seem to decide what sorta service to provide. They started on digital with regular MTV, and MTV Extra (as well as Base and Dance). Extra was sposda repeat all the MTV shows at staggered times and have backstage cameras at the various MTV Awards shows. Then they changed MTV Extra into MTV Hits, and made it purely videos. Then TMF appears as purely videos, and now it's repeating all the MTV shows.
I prefer to watch the purely music video channels not owned by MTV during breaks of actual TV shows. MTV 'original' series are terrible. I NEVER turn on regular MTV, it's wall-to-wall crap.
at least TMF will have music but i am almost sure i have seen things like spongebob squarepance on that before. do they show it?

I have never seen SpongeBob on TMF, only Nickelodeon (and TG4). I'd welcome SpongeBob over all the MTV shows :)

I'll actually watch crap like TOTP (briefly I may add) or TG4 video shows before even flipping over to MTV & I was weaned on MTV's n*pples. I miss No Disco on TV3 though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 743 ✭✭✭father_ted9t9

No Disco was on Net2 man, Pop On 3 And the Music Room were on tv3, also the more recent Music Cubed, which will be returning in may

yep spongebob is now on tmf in the evenings. Still I suppose he is better than real world, cribs, etc.

What the ITV news Channel. Sorry could help myself.

Will they be free to air? FFS.

So does anybody know the full story? Is it videos or viva le bam and dirty sanchez et al???

They aren't advertising as so. They are advertising it as a music channel purely.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,255 ✭✭✭TCamen

TMF @ the moment is mostly videos up until the evening time, then it kicks in with Cribs, Real World & all them.
It's certainly a step up from regular MTV in that you'll actually SEE music videos on it (for now anyways).

    Cool re: Spongebob :D

I flicked through it last night. I wasn't overly impressed but at least it shows some videos (even if they are the same 12 over and over again.)

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 2,884 Mod ✭✭✭✭celticfc

It seems quite good (well up to about 9pm anyway) with plenty of music video's.

It also launched yesterday on ntl Digital where its on 24 hours. See here for more info.

I was watching TMF last night. They seem to do pretty good music videos after twelve.

One thing did annoy me though: They were playing "gaybar" by electric six and they bleeped out the words "nuclear" (spelling?) and "war". This was at 3 am. It just struck me as really really strange to bleep out those two words, especially considering later on in the video the guy sings "I've got something to put in you" while stroking a massive pepper mill...

Ah the Beatbox! Later renamed 2tv! Shame that it was dropped tbh. I used to laugh at Dave Fannings regular sarcasm towards his female sidekick, can't remember her name.

Pop On 3 was sometimes watchable too, though it was axed too. Who was that demented presenter?

    bianca luyckx & darragh purcell

the people want no disco back, the only music show now is that glen hansard & his cronies in a church love-in

It's not as good as Channel U on Sky - late at night they show all the naughtiest videos interspersed with ho's getting their kit off. Quality TV I tell you.

I saw that vid the other week and as well as the words bleeped out they had the pepper mill and a bannana (or some other phallic shaped household object) blurred out. TBH I preferred the vid for Danger High Voltage, I am surprised that the bulging crotch light hasn't caught on:rolleyes:
