It's TMF (The Music Factory) and will be broadcast from 7pm to 6am every day, after Nickelodeon.

    !

Not a bad choice, in fact. Since MTV is now show no videos, this is a good move for analogue customers

I look forward to seeing this channel, wonder if this means we'll get it on digital too?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 2,884 Mod ✭✭✭✭celticfc

I noticed the graphic about it last night orite. As DMC says, at least it'll bring a bit of music back on to the analogue package & I'd rather have that then QVC. I wish they'd get rid of MTV & put on something half decent in its place.

Seems likely that it might be bound for the digital package, we'll have to wait & see I suppose.

will it be mono in Waterford like Nickelodeon?

Certainly a better choice than QVC any day. Now hopefully it makes its way onto the digital service as well...

IIRC ntl never actually announced that it would be QVC which would replace the link channel, all they said was that a new service was launching soon.

Anyway, here's a screen grab of their latest caption for anyone who hasn't seen it about TMF:

In the first few days in January 2004, ntl DID announce that the replacement was to be QVC - I saw the graphic myself on the Link channel pages.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 743 ✭✭✭father_ted9t9

i saw it too and a mate of mine in NTL also verified it was supposed to be QVC

Gotta to admit the caption is really bad. I know NTL have "improved" the cable network and service from the days of Cablelink, but come on, this is something you'd expect back in the 80s! Cablelink used to come up with better graphics for these type of notices on their link channel.

a tv channel blasting out pop music. :)

QVC might have been better it could have given ideas forpressies while flicking through the channels
    :)

"Gotta to admit the caption is really bad."

Caption is not great because the Link Channel is no longer broadcast so the normal backgrounds can't be used. Background colour has been changed to a mustardy colour. Not sure if that is any nicer. There are no logos or suitable backgrounds available so that's what's going out till launch date.

ntl Technical do you actually work for NTL?

if you are can i gos lightly off topic and ask if there are any new channels propsed fro the digital service int he pipeline?

Due to the ntl secrecy act, I can't tell you anything which has been deemed to be of a confidential nature so you will just have to wait and see. Sorry about that. ;)

ntl probably got a heap of cash to show TMF as well as a cut of the money made from people requesting videos.

I hope this station goes 24 hours on digital. Anyone any word on a digital version?

I hope they launch it on digital too. I'm sick of sending them the same e-mail over and over again to get new channels and then getting the same rubbishy reply that "their marketing department are constantly looking to extend the digital tv service line-up and that you comments and suggestions have been kindly noted". Obviously, all the marketing department does (if there even is one) is sit around drinking coffee, because they haven't added any NEW channels since November of last year!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,003 ✭✭✭JDxtra

TMF do show more music videos than MTV, but from 9pm until midnight they tend to show endless repeats of old Cribs & Celebrity death match.

So, apart from the night owls of this world - most folk will only get the potential to see 2 hours of music videos per day. Better than nothing I suppose.

I'm sure their hands are tied some what. NTL only have the capacity to offer a certain amount of channels on it's network.

If they squeezed every channel on, the quality would have to drop on other channels and we may as well just watch animated gifs on our computers.

Well, since NTL have removed Sky Sports 3, and are soon to remove Sky Sports 1 and 2 (sky sports 2 is also transmitted a second time, for some reason in mono!!!) they will have plenty of space. After all when the removed the then Sky Movies Premier, Max and Cinema, and Disney, they added roughly 17 new channels! So, they never added anything when they took down SS3, so I'm judging that we should get AT LEAST another 17 channels after SS is gone!!!

(probably not the situation of course, since this is ntl we are talking about!!!)

What channels would everyone like added?
I'd like rest of uktv, fx, a couple of more musak channels, sky sports xtra etc.

Actually that might be better than some of the content. I'm hardly watching TV at all.

I concur. In fact, why don't NTL just get rid of the uselessness that is MTV and replace it with a decent channel?

It's rubbish! 10 seconds in powerpoint and you get that. Where's the corporate branding? The very least something like that should have is a watermarked logo and colour scheme - either of the company itself (NTL) or the channel they're advertising (TMF). Or was it someone in marketing who thought that it looked deadly?

    It is what it's.

As ntl Technical said it's since been changed from the pink/purple to a sort of mustardy colour here, is that the same as it is in Waterford Mossy?

Just been announced in enn.ie that the channel will launch April 5th. They usual "repeat" press releases/sound bites, so it's worrying when they only mention the channel is being added to the analogue service, with no mention of the digital.

Check out channel 709 (in Dublin)

Er, Sky Sports News is indeed on NTL Digital.

Apparently, fantastically, amazingly, brialliantly, surprisingly, Eurosport and eurosportsnews ARE to go on digital shortly, along with sky sports xtra. That's according to a certain website in the UK that deals specifically with digital tv, and a Sunday Times article printed yesterday, Sunday.

    :D:D

DigitalSpy or Media Bullet, I would imagine. Nothing on either though from a quick glance.

Yes, Sky Sports (should be Soccer, it seems to be the only sport it covers) News is Dublin only... as unfortunately have been most new channel launches over the past year or so. Seems from another thread that this is changing.

The website is digitalspy.co.uk. I saw one post there when I was moderating them.
Keep looking for it and you will find it. I'll try to get a link for it and then post it here.
