    Getting ourselves some inter-club events.

Trips for example, nights out too.

We've not really had any. Seems to happen after UL and Maynooth but we didn't have anything, neighter did UCD. Did anything much happen after GMIT?

I know we stopped into the nearby hotel for a drink last year but that's all that I can remember - no I wasn't drunk, not that I drink anyhow.

Trips could be just a weekend somewhere. Could be archery related or not. For example a lot of clubs have no access to a good outdoor venue but there's a number of Adventure Centres out there that do. We talked to one before and they weren't gonna charge us much, if anything, once we had our own gear.

Maybe make an outdoor competition out of it. Nothing too serious though and of course distances would be relative to the experience and power of the archers bows.

Anyway suggestions, thoughts, ideas, comments. Fire away (not at me preferably). :)

well after DCU/DIT Sinéad myself and John went to the pub for a few drinks, every1 else went home:( (maybe we're alco's)
and on sat night after GMIT a fair few of us went to a pub(full of sex deprived UCD girls) and had a laugh, although Sinéad myself and Ewan left the rest of the lads early cause we didnt have the pleasure of crawling 30meters down the road to the hostel where the rest of the lads stayed.
I agree that a night out or something should be arranged cause ya'll know me, i never refuse alcohol!!!!!!:D (well i am a student)

As I once suggested as a DCUAC trip: Delphi, there's archery for the more dedicated and then various other outdoor sports, cabins for an overnight/over-weekend stay and it's in Ireland so there'd have to be a pub nearby!

Actually what we used to do on quite a regular basis, most of last semester, was go to the UGC for a flick on Friday nights after archery. Of course the tickets were usually sold out so we bought tickets for the midnight showing, went and got food then had a few drinks in Fibbers before the film.

Must start doing that again. Maybe some of the other clubs would be interested in joining us? Well... Dublin clubs or others who happen to be in Dublin at the time.

Think I'll continue to abstain, no sense in changing habit.

    Hehehe...

Ye train til about 10 on Fridays? Plenty of time to get into town to the UGC for midnight showing. :) The earliest we ever seem to get is about 11:30.

Well as I'm sure Podge knows, UCD have been looking for suggestions about the Dublin Derby this year seen as UL IV is so late. I was suggesting to them, as it seems to be the general feeling in DIT, that it might be an idea to have an outdoor competition in September.
    There'd be several advantages:
    1) Reasonably good weather ( usually anyway )
    2) It would be a good way to size up the opposition for upcoming Intervarsities ( and maybe motivate us clubs to train harder)
    3) Its a good experience for the relatively new people
    4) It gives the Dublin Derby something different to help it stand out from the IVs

My idea was to have a quasi short metric, ie 30 arrows at 50m and 30 arrows at 30m ( to allow for a lack of bow fitness ) and if the "schools people" want to shoot longer distances etc so much the better. From experience, 26lb bows can hit 50m with jazz arrows and even 24lb bows should be able to do so.

ps If Ewan was real nice to UCD, they might even invite him, Paul Burke and the other college organiser people and we could use the day to get a rough fix on IVs for the year too.

    Interesting idea alright...

The one thing I'd feel bad about though is keeping such a thing as a Dublin Derby. Surely if such an event were to happen all the clubs in the country would be intersted. Perhaps not but I think they would be.

As we learned at a trip to Dublin Archers shooting at longer distances can be devastating to arrows.

6 sighters would hardly be enough.

The outdoor event could be held anywhere during the summer. It might be a nice idea though to try an adventure centre and have a weekend away for everyone. So everyone has to travel and have a good laugh.

Lets see what people think about it anyhow...

We may as well get all the diffrerent clubs board members together after Limerick to have a proper discussion about the comps for next year... Me and sin were saying earlier at training that we should try get some common ground rules down for all IV comps to save confusion...
everyone has ideas or suggestions we may as well put them to use to help the IV scene grow.

Well there's definitely no problem heading over to the UL bar when all is done and dusted to finalise some plans, but there's no harm in kicking around some ideas here. It gives everyone more of a say then the committees of each club meeting in a corner.
I would also be interested in seeing if any other colleges are interested in pushing the IAAA to fund or part fund competition in some international events, even in England. We have some people with vote entitlements at the AGM now plus we're all paying affiliation fees. It would require some dedication though, trying to push our scores up and such. The raw talent is definitely there......
