    Hi all.

I have a digital camera and have been experimenting with exposure etc. I love the effect it creates. I looked into this area further and I found 6 hour exposures of the night sky. This really opened my mind. I didnt think that even existed. It creates such an impressive photograph.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone can suggest any online galleries of such photos. I would love to see loads of original photos, anything that stands out from the rest.

    Any suggesyions? Thanks : )

were you on photo.net last week by any chance! They had a really nice long exposure picture:

It's quite amazing that someone can decide 6 hours at f whatever and get such good exposure on the foregroud. Not something I'd want to learn by trial and error :eek:Comments on that link are interesting too.

There was a great guide to night time photography in Photography Monthly a while back. It had a nice section on star trails. I'll run through some of the main points of the article when I fish that magazine out.

That photo on photo.net is one of the best i have ever seen! At the moment I have a Canon A60 digital. Nothing amazing but its a handy little number.

The maximum exposure time is 15 seconds (compared to 6 hours its a piece of spit!)
Still, I love messing around with it - has anyone got any tricks I could try with it. I have a few photos of waterfalls etc (using 1 to 2 sec exposure for nice flowing effect).

I am a total amatuer as you can probably guess!

That picture on photo.net is pretty mind blowing. 8 hours in a forest at night time with a 4x5 camera, the result is stunning.

I agree. What kind of equipment would you need for that, how much would it cost and where could ya get it?

Medium and large format cameras aren't cheap, they use much larger negatives so the quality is much better. If you're serious about getting some star trails buy a cheap 35mm SLR, I'm sure you'd find a nice manual cam on eBay. A tripod is obviously essential. I still haven't found that mag but when I do I'll post the most interesting bits.:)
