You could always lob a jellyfish at them, let the little stingers do their job, or use it like some kind of whip type thingie. As long as you keep the tenticles away from yourself you'd be fine.

I've always found that a manta ray (or sting ray for those not strong enough to lift the manta) is best. it has a tail to swing it by, and is nice and flat, for more of a "slap" on impact.
