1: I am building my first PC, and have purchased a single SATA 120g drive. My mobo will come with SATA driver disks. Will I need to load RAID drivers at all? I do not plan to add another drive at any stage. So basically do all SATA drives run through the RAID array, or can they work stand-alone? I am sort of worried about this part of the build.

2: When people note their RAM config, such as 2-3-2-6 and so on, what does each number mean? I read about CAS latentcy, etc...which number is which? Thanks.

Hi, I recently started thinking about this kinda stuff.

You might find this or this useful. Some of it gets complicated (to me anyway;)) but there's a logic to it all.

What I have learnt, from our illustrious fellow board members, is that the lower the latency the better, but at the expense of overclockability on the FSB. Generally the higher you can clock the FSB, the looser (higher) the latency timings get.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong! :)

    Edit:
Oh, and DataIsGod pointed me towards this thread in overclockers which is also a good general starting point. All sorts of nuggets and links from it.

The drivers will have to be loaded to recognise the SATA drives. The RAID will not run with only one hard drive so you can disable it in BIOS so it doesnt ask you to go into RAID config (if ya want to) If you choose to do a RAID setup AFTER installing Xp on the single drive and have loads of stuff on it then you'll need to format both drives to implement RAID. So if your planning to RAID later bear that in mind
