Premier And After Effects Trouble

Just downloaded a trial of the latest version of adobe after effects and premier. I have this strange problem that no matter what size i encode the video as, it always seems really small, like it's not being stretched or only a little portion of it is visible to whoever is watching it. The video is the size it should be, but where there's no video, it's just black, and the main part of the video, ie the stuff you can see, is real small. Dunno how else to explain it. Anyone know how to cure this? Also... can anyone point me to a good tutorial of adding maybe phaser and transporter effects to videos? Thanks.

When you start your project, what dimensions is the video set at and also what media software are you using to view it?

have you selected "Pan And Scan"? That cuts out bits of the viewing area when you save youe video, Letterbox would be the better option in that case.

Other than that, what resolution are you saving the video at? The higher the better. 720x576 for DVD size output

Well im only trying out the software at the moment to teach myself how to use it. I can only learn how to use it by messing about and asking other people, but reading the manual that comes with it? Forget it, doesn't stay in my head. Anyways it's not for any major project i'm just testing out something. I'm not at home at the moment i'm in a mates house so ill try that pan and scan thing when i get home. Also i was wondering if you guys could point me to a good website that explains how to create different effects in premier and after effects, ie phaser beams and transporter affects from star trek, that kinda thing. Any help is appreciated.

Is it Premiere or AFX you are having the export issue with?
