S-ATA vs Ultra ATA

Well, just got my nice new Seagate S-ATA 120Gb drive deliverd from overclock.co.uk, only, it's not S-ATA. They sent me an Ultra ATA drive!

The thing is, is it worth the trouble of sending it back, or should I just get them to refund the difference (10-15 euro)? Was planning on plugging it into a P4C800-E DELUXE.

My gut feeling is sod it, and maybe get an SATA in a few months if I need to... :dunno:

Is there much of a diff?

The only real difference is that SATA cables are neater. Any performance difference will be neglegible and until the next generation of SATA it's basically standard ATA over a thinner cable. It's probably not worth your while spending 5 - 10 Euro more to return it when you can get 10 - 15 Euro back. Also, it's possible to pick up convertors that allow you to use Parallel ATA drives on SATA systems. if you need to do so in future.

Not really worth the hassle, let overclockers know and you might get a freebie,

There is not much of a preformance difference,

    Thanks joePC

Yeah, didn't think it'd be worth it.

I just sent them a mail pointing out the mistake and asking for a refund on the difference. They sent a mail back within a few mins apologising and letting me know of the refund.

Still happy with the service I guess, they're pretty attentive - Just the packer guy was asleep or something :)

    Ta!

The only SATA drive worth getting is one of the raptor drives. Preferrably, get two of em and create a RAID array. Neater cables but little performance difference in general

Otherwise, just contact overclockers in the hope of getting a free drive, very doubtful though
