What previous experiance is required ?

    Guys,

the roles are based on a contract basis. They were on a rate of €10p/hr prior to this. The company are now paying €9.50p/hr plus €0.50p/hour on completion of the contract.

Raskolnikov if you took the time to do a search on the post I made before you would see it was not €10.50.

I do Pharmaceutical recruitment. It makes no difference to me whether anybody takes these roles at all. They are a good chance for an IT graduate to get some experience under their belt.

The only reason I posted this, is I thought that it would be of advantage to users on this board. The sort of people who post threads about finishing their degrees and not being able to find a job anywhere because they have no experience.

I have posted a contact number for the people dealing with it. I DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE ROLES!!!!
If you have any questions ring them not me...

Now if the likes of Raskolnikov want to be so paranoid about being ripped off, I don't give a monkey's...I am being altrusitic here, I have nothing to gain...and I will not answer any more questions on it...

LOL. A necessary step to take on their part.

Ah not really. The jobs are as described, there's nothing hidden about it. Some people have some bad blood with the company in question, and James has been taking flack, even though he's just posting here for the good of boardsters.
As he says, Liam or Keith in Stelfox deal with the roles, James is just another poster here.

To answer your question Wanton - no previous experience is required.

(For the record, I have done this job. Briefly. Very Briefly.)

The jobs are now gone. They do come up from time to time. I am happy to post here when they do on the proviso that :

    (a) I am not asked to answer any questions I will provide a number to call and a contact name
    (b) I don't have people jumping down my throat about any issues they may or not have had.

They are call centre based IT support positions. They are not a choice of career. They are however a good route for people who want to get some experiecne under their belt for 6 months.

I posted this to help the likes of coolio_64 who have not been able to get a job.

If anyone has any problems with these points then I will not post.

Anyone that goes for these jobs, don't put your wages through a company called CMR - who James in Stelfox recommended to me when I took up this job in the past. I had nothing but trouble getting paid every week with them. Do your own tax.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,016 ✭✭✭✭vibe666

if you're keen to learn, and don't mind working outside of office hours sometimes then it's a good place to start in IT and despite them getting some bad press occasionally, having their name on your CV is still going to do you a lot of good when its time to move on.

as james said its not a career, but it is a good first step on the IT ladder.

Apparently you don't have the option to do your own tax anymore. You have to pay stelfox 12 euro a week to do it for you.

I'm sorry, did you say 12 euro a week?

You heard me correctly, yes. I think this is a little steep when you consider it costs about 60 euro (under a hundred definitely) to set up your own company and do your own taxes...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,016 ✭✭✭✭vibe666

i'm not entirely sure how legal that is. if you have a limited company set up and want to do your own taxes I can't see how they could stop you.

i was one of the first batch of stelfox contractors with eircom and i have to agrtee with you about the trouble getting paid thing, not to mention a bunch of other related issues that also had to do with them trying to completely change the contract without consulting us, and telling us that they wouldn't pay us until we signed the new contracts which resulted in us all threatening to walk off site if they didn't sort it out.

it did get sorted, but they had to send kieth and liam in to meet with us and agree not to make the changes.

anyway, they aren't exactly the nicest people to work for, but its better than not working at all, and eircom are a good company to have on your CV, so you can take your chances.

oh, and the 50c kept back is a bit crap, but it'll be a sweet payoff if you make it to the end of the contract.

when i did it the contract was 12 months, but i was only 3 of 12 who made it to the end of the contract and eircom offered me a permanent job at the end too although i didn't take it cos it was crap.

    Take my advice.

DO NOT SET UP A COMPANY

It may be cheap and easy to set one up but by Crikey is it a nightmare to make sure you comply with all the rules and regs + you need to have another named director as well as yourself.

    Register as self employed.

I would agree with both of these points. The job itself was fine, but CMR are a joke, tbh if stelfox do away with CMR, the job would be 100 times more pleasant to do. They act as though they are doing you a favour every week by doing what u pay them €16 per week to do. Not nice to deal with at all.

sorry bad that's some fecking aweful advice mate.

go to one of the more reputable management companie's and get an off the shelf company and let the management people take the stress out of it all.

you pay them a small fee, and for that they take care of everything from tax to banking and invoicing, you just need to sign the odd form they post you and fax them copies of your timesheets every week and they do the rest.

chances are if you're earning a good wage then they will more than pay for themselves because you'll be paying less tax than you would on your own cos they do all the legal tax fiddles for you, so you don't pay too much to the revenue people.

    more cash less stress.

it works for me and hundreds of other IT contractors out there.

it's not really worth it unless you're earning over 28k cos you're in the lower tax bracket anyway, but above that you're much better off with the pro's doing your books.

If you are doing serious contracting most places will require you to be a limited company. Its a form of liability protection that the larger companies like to use, if you have your own company and you screw up something so bad that the company using your services gets sued then they can point at your little limited company and say you did it. With a sole trader status there is more of an implied employee employer relationship whereby the company can be sued but this is a grey area because the company may not be insured againist a sole trader screwing up and they could get taken to the cleaners. At least this is how it was explained to me and made sense at the time.

I agree with vibe666, its well worth it if you want to minimse your tax liability, those accountants are smart feckers and know all sorts of ways to hide income inside your expences.
