Red Green Stompy (I named it myself)

    Deck I'm currently trying out for type 2.

    It needs ALOT of tweaking, playtesting and dissecting.

    Any contribution what-so-ever would be very much welcome.

    Thanks.

    //NAME: Red Green Stompy(I named it myself)
    // Sideboard
    SB: 2 Silklash Spider
    SB: 2 Grab the Reins
    SB: 3 Naturalize
    SB: 4 Echoing Ruin
    SB: 4 Pulse of the Tangle
    // Creatures
    4 Ravenous Baloth
    4 Arc-Slogger
    2 Viridian Shaman
    4 Troll Ascetic
    1 Silvos, Rogue Elemental
    2 Nantuko Vigilante
    3 Molder Slug
    4 Krosan Tusker
    4 Birds of Paradise
    // Instants
    4 Starstorm
    4 Electrostatic Bolt
    // Sorceries
    4 Demolish
    // Lands
    3 Mountain
    4 Forest
    3 Tranquil Thicket
    3 Forgotten Cave
    3 Shivan Oasis
    4 Wooded Foothills

    Quite a simple theory behind it, really.

    1) Take the most powerful decks (Goblins & Ravager Affinity) .

    2) Take every Green and Red card out there (in type 2) that could in some way disrupt them slightly.

    3) Put them into a deck.

    There is ALOT of artifact hate main deck, because there will be alot of artifacts maindeck. There are a few random cards thrown in to help deal with random scrub decks. Like silklash spider & Grab the rains.

    I'm of two minds with regards to Mr. Arc-Slogger. Ok, sure he's a 4/5 body which is always nice in a deck with Green in it. Plus he's a beast which makes him sacrificable for 4 life if needs be, but... I just dont know.

    It surely needs more acceleration or more stalling abilities for Goblin Bidding, I've as yet to play test against it.

    With pulse of the tangle, alot of artifact hate (for the evil skull clamp, which essentially makes the deck) I'm reasonably confident that unless they get a godly hand, I could come out with a 50:50 win ratio.

    Not sure about Viridian Shaman or Nantuko Vigilante. With alot of artifact hate going around I've noticed quite alot of scrub/and-not-so-scruby decks with pretty powerful enchantments so Vigilante doubles up there, but I'm not sure of the interaction between vigilante & dampening matrix so when I look into that I'll be able to make a better decision.

    The molder slug may even get to 4 at some point, as he is just brilliant. A 4/6 for 5 is one thing, but one who rapes one of the best Tier 1 decks...

    Also you'll notice my deck is artifact Lite[TM], this is because there is just so much artifact hate going around (as my deck will testify to) that it can throw some decks off in the metagame.

    Most of my main-deck artifact destruction is multi-purpose so I hopefully wont suffer as much when coming across a deck similar to mine.

    Not sure about echoing ruin or shatter or a non-artifact destruction spell.

    Now I know this is hardly an innovative idea and there are probably a million other versions of this deck out there already, but the fact is, I havent seen them so I'm pretty happy thinking this is my baby...

    Well, thanks for any input you might have. Please, be brutal.

    arc slogger is gr8, in most games u'll b able to use his ability around 4 times, that's 8 damage to your opponent on its own, not to be sniffed at. Also, please don't use that deck against my artifact deck :D

    Sorry, but your deck is what its designed to beat. If you cant beat Affinity & Goblins you might as well stay at home ;)

    I'm begining to lean more towards Vigilante over the Shaman after some games today with some sneaky enchantment decks (indestructable ingots & pendants) with march of the machines.

    Grab the reins, vigilante, slug & naturalise all work pretty well though, so in the second game he was toast.

    I dont like these Cloudpost/Green/splash red decks though. They generate insane amounts of mana really fast and fireball you for 22 on turn 10. While in the mean time you have to deal with tooth and nail :(

    Its those kind of decks that make baby jesus cry.

    Sionach, you going to Nationals, you can crash at my place if you want. I live with Clansman, so you can be assured I'm not (that) weird.

    Also, we'll be doing some playtesting the night before along with some drinks etc.

    And finally, Carlow Qualifiers is this weekend. There is a Grand Prix on in bermingham so most of the good players are at that. This means that this weekend is one of the best oppurtunitys to qualify, so turn up!

    I unfortunately will be in Galway at the Galway Lan 9 :p

    Oh yeah, I made some changes... just some minor tweaks.

    //NAME: Red Green Stompy (I named it myself)

    4 Ravenous Baloth
    3 Arc-Slogger
    4 Troll Ascetic
    1 Silvos, Rogue Elemental
    3 Nantuko Vigilante
    3 Molder Slug
    4 Krosan Tusker
    4 Birds of Paradise
    // Instants
    4 Starstorm
    4 Electrostatic Bolt
    // Sorceries
    3 Demolish
    // Lands
    3 Mountain
    4 Forest
    3 Temple of the False God
    2 Tranquil Thicket
    4 Forgotten Cave
    3 Shivan Oasis
    4 Wooded Foothills

    Added some more land to stave off getting mana screwed and remove a demolish.

    Removed shaman altogether, from what I've seen vigilante is better, but I'm still reserving final judgement...

    thx for the offer for a place to stay, i don't stand much of a chance of making it to the nationals from the dublin qualifiers, however i think i might head down for the last minute grinders for teh laugh if i don't, and even if i don't qualify then i think ill stick around and watch the finals anyway, do a bit of trading etc. Wanna see what the competition is like for next year when i'll stand much more of a chance of qualifying :)

    nantuko vigilante is more versatile than the shaman alright. That molder slug is evil, EVIL i say. Its been the ruin of me so many times, then when the opponent gets two of them out its insane :(

    :D

    Its a bit expensive, but once it comes out... havoc! Can be less effective later on if the opponent has a lot of artifact fodder out, but still an excellent card.

    Well in theory, with mana acceleration you can have it out on turn 4.

    Against affinity they (assuming they dont miss a land drop) will have 4 lands plus a multitude of other free artifacts & cheap artifacts so possibly could have an empty hand by turn 4.

    In this scenario molder slug doesnt really "rape" them but slows them down long enough for you to get control. And if they cant deal with it, they should be finished.

    Also the fact that he is 4/6 means he can block enforcers till the cows come home.

    The biggest advantage I think is that it usually prevents the ravager deck from going off. If you sacrafice an artifact to ravager you simply speeding up the turn at which you have to sacrifice your ravager.

    Slug is good, but 2 slugs are better :)

    yeah thats one of his other annoying qualities, they couldn't have made him 3/6 or even 6/4. Atm my ways of dealing with it are losing an enforcer against it and pyrite bombing it, or bouncing him back with aether bomb and countering it next turn

    Type 2 legal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 455 ✭✭Lyconix

    Your deck is type 2 (Standard) legal if it doesn't contain any cards from expansion sets older than the following:

    - 8th Edition (Core Set)
    - Mirrodin Block
    - Onslaught Block

    also Invasion, Onslaught and Scourge

    It has a 4th ed card, so its not legal but I'll remove it, no Morrdinian, Darksteel or Core Ed new lay out cards in any of my decks.
