Creative sb Live series question

got above mentioned soundcard of a friend resently, think it a value model?.

looking at the setings for it i noticed i could turn on digital, great i taught i can record mp3s from my pc to minidisc using an optical cable.
thats what i taught, there doesn't seem to be a working output (one with the red light coming out) on the card, does this mean it doesn't have digital out or is it broken? there is a output plug for it, black stereojack look alike hole.

is there a mod to make it work or even software???

It doesn't have optical, it has spdif.:( Its a different type of digital connection. I think it's the black port that doubles as the spdif as well as rear. You should be able to get a converter in Peat's or Maplin's to turn it into optical.

might be beter of then getting a a good sound card with one then

Or ya might be able to get a cheap second hand live drive from ebay. Probably cheaper than the convertor or a new card.
