Video/DVD format in Oz?

    I need to send a vhs tape and a dvd to someone in Oz, does anyone know the format and region for these?

    DVDs and VHS are both PAL (same as Ireland). DVDs are region 4

    DVD wise Australia are a seperate region from Europe (region 2) and North America (Region 1). I think it's region 5. If the dvd is region encoded to a different region from australia and your oz friend doesn't have a region free dvd then it won't work.

    As for VHS, I think it's the same as us. VHSs outdate anti-consumer region locking, so the main reason an american video won't play correctly on our video machines is because their TV (and hence videos) use a different frequence to ours. The reason I think Australia is the same as us is because Nintendo GameCube games baught in Australia will work on European GameCubes, whereas Japanese or American games need a Freeloader. I remeber hearing about this when a cult game only came out in Australia. I'm not sure about the video though..
