Anyone catch this on Friday night? It's a new series from the two writers behind Ted basically taking the piss out of Ireland and it's backwards ways.

The first episode was kinda hit and miss, but the 'hits' were really funny including one hilarious part where they had various people reminiscing about the Irish version of 24 which aired in the 60s. "I remember the episode where they were painting the door" and it just shows a guy painting a door, and "There was an episode where a woman was doing her washing... You just never knew what would happen next" and "It was full of twists and turns. My favourite episode was where there was this man standing there for an hour waiting for the kettle to boil and then at the end of it you find out he forgot to turn it on". It's very Ted-esque, very surreal.

Other funny moments were the annual shouting contest (a culchie in a field shouting at the top of his voice with others judging him), the arrival of the colour pink in Ireland in the 50s (1 million people turned out in the Pheonix Park to witness it), yet another celebrity (Halle Berry) getting married in Ireland, this time to local publican Seamie Lynch (?) ("Sure I always knew the right woman would come along"), the arrival of women into the country at the beginning of the century, and instead of a dating agency a fighting agency where people send their videos in hoping to find someone to fight (with some hilarious lines that I can't remember)

As I said, it's hit and miss and probably won't appeal to everyone, but it's worth checking out.

    I actually quite enjoyed it.

You missed the bit on contraception. :p

Yeah it was denfenitly hit and miss and its a hard to see a full series keepng a high standard.

That said it was good. Paticularly liked the bit where they were playing that game where you throw a metal ball down the road and they announced it as "Irelands first motorized mouse".

Guess you'd have to have seen it though.

It was on Friday, BBC2 about 11pm. I don't think it was a pilot episode so it should be appearing next week.

Just caught the end of it myself; seemed quite good. I reckon I'll be keeping an eye out for the next episode.

    Friday, 11.40pm, BBC2.

Bought a magzine, and saw a preview of the episode, made a point of watching it. The first 15 mins were bloody excellent. The second half entertaining all the same.

Definately going to watch the next episode, and hopefully be able to say it's a cracker.
