Disney are making a movie version of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe". Apparently it will be the first in a series of movies, so whether they will make The Magicians Nephew down the line sometime or not at all remains to be seen. They don't seem to worried about making the movies in the order the books were written but maybe it's a good choice to make The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe first as most people who haven't read the whole series have read it.
I'm really looking forward to this movie- if they do a good job on it!! Any thoughts? Anyone else love the books growing up?

This is one of the productions that moved from Ireland during the section 481 scare. Production was moved to New Zealand.

I remember the books, they were great.
I remember the television series of them aswell. Well I mainly remember The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and The Silver Chair (I think it was called the Silver Chair anyway). They were pretty good too.

The Magician's Nephew would be a better film IMHO as it doesn't tie itself in knots trying to ape Christianity for kids, e.g., Aslan dies, Aslan resurrects, etc.

But I do love the image of the lampost in the snow and the fawn. It could be excellent if done well and they tone down the christ theme.

Ah, childhood memories, how easy we forget.

    Is it a remake?

I seem to remember a movie of "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" or was that just the tv series????

It certainly would be nice to see the movie of the books. i remember Aslan and all that, and then I think I read the Silver Chair, and wasn't there another one called Prince Caspian or something like that.

These are classics, be nice to see the movie of 'em reappear.

No I remember the movie too so this would have to be a remake. Just hoping they won't make a bollox out of it:)

As far as I know there wasn't a movie, just a TV series on 4 of the 7 books. They did book 2- The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, book 4- Prince Caspian, book 5- The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and book 6- The Silver Chair. They were just brilliant, really well made.
I think that they should start at the beginning and make The Magicians Nephew first. Some of the best characters are in that book- Fledge the winged horse, the cockney cabbie, the white witch Jadis, Uncle Andrew- and it supplies all the very first history of Narna and how Aslan created it. It would make a brilliant movie, but only if the makers were committed to making all 7.

But I'm really sure there was a movie...:)

Disney had better not add songs and wize-cracking irritating characters to this.

    Being Directed by Andrew Adamson.
Andrew Adamson's previous films include "Shrek" and "Shrek 2." Before that, he was the Visual Effects supervisor on "Batman Forever" ...

The Special Effects are being done by Richard Taylor and WETA Digital of
"The Lord of the Rings Trilogy" fame...

There was a cartoon movie made in the late 70s, which by the way was the first feature length (over 60 minutes) animated movie made for TV. The BBC made a series in 1988 (which is probably the one we all remember) (6 episodes I think) and a black and white series in the late 60s (10 episodes). If you're not thinking of the cartoon movie, you may have seen a non-stop broadcast of the series (it was about three hours in total) or seen the DVD, where it's presumably edited together. Either way, it was originally a series. RTE showed it a few times. These are the only three times the thing has been filmed commercially[1]

[1]I'm sure someone's done a cheap garage-type version using their mammy's big wardrobe at some stage. I would have if we'd had a vijo camera. Anyone want to lend me a significant amount of lego for a stop-motion lego version?

The Magician's Nephew wasn't actually the first written. It was written later as a prequel so in that sense they are doing the films in the right order.
