And it is so annoying I feel like crying because I do not know how the hell to fix it.

I got a new tft and games run perfect on it better than my crt, but i still have the same problem, ripples are running through the middle of the screen when i am plaing games.

I have a feeling it is definitely a refresh rate problem. Please help me fix this.

    Have all latest drivers etc.

    My rig is:

    p4 3.0ghz,
    1gb ram,
    msi 648 max ht
    radeon 8500 128mb

PS: I do not really feel like crying, it is just really frustrating to have what looks like electro magnetic activity waves going throuh my screen.

PPS: It most definitly is not electro magnetic activity.

set your refresh rate to 60hz

check the catalyst drivers are upto date

check your directx is upto date

make sure you have the correct tft drivers installed (i dunno but my tft came with a drivers disc dunno about yours)

failing that im not really to sure

Are you sure it ain't the gfx card?

Do you have the gfx card overclocked too much?

If you do clocking it down a wee bit might help.

    No. Not overclocked at all.

I thought the problem was because it was at 60hz. So I put it to 70 hz and then the ripples went but it was too all weird and abnormal.

So now it is back at 60hz and the same thing is happening. I have to admit this did not happen with the crt. Must be a driver problem with the monitor.

My monitor is a viewsonoic vp171s screen.

    :(

Keep your mobile away from the screen first of all.
Are you using a pure DVI connection from your video card to the TFT?
If not its's til using the old analgoue D-Sub, which can still be affected by electromagnetic interference.

If not, then I'd say the most likely culprit is your graphics card.
Try replacing it and see what happens.

Turn on VSync, what you could be seeing are refresh artefacts.

Basically, if your refresh rate is 60hz, and VSync is off, the following could happen...

Your graphics card pumps out 120 frames a second, but since the monitor only refreshs 60 times a second, therefore, when your monitor is halfway through displaying each frame, the graphics card gives it a new one, so you end up with 2 different frames displayed at the same time.

This could be a noise problem on your AC power. Have a surge protector that has an RFI/EMI filter on it? Something near could be causing interference. It could be something else in the room, or building. I had this happen to me once where a one of those tanning machine in the beauty palour next door caused this interference when it was on during working hours. As soon as they turned it off the interference in our office stopped. Its the same thing if someone is using an electric drill, or food mixer on mains power and it interferes with your TV signal.

you have a radeon, so i can;t tell you exactly where all the buttons are (as i have an nVidia). Basically just rightclick on your desktop, click properties, then go to the Settings tab, and then click advanced.

This should bring up a new window, hopefully showing your card as one of the tabs. Opne the corresponding tab, and search around for OpenGL settings, and then enable Vsync there. Then do the same for DirectX.

If that doesn't work, check the manufaturers website, or ask others.

Does the problem get much worse at 60hz and better at 120hz (screeen freq) assuming your monitor can do 120hz at any resolution.

Glad i could help you anyway, it was just a wild guess, as it was the only thing i could think of that might cause the problem you described.
