Top New American Drama On TG4

TG4 are continuing to out do both TV3 and RTE by getting top american drama before them and in some cases before sky. One wonders with the end of SATC and Friends finishing why RTE and TV3 haven't bid for the rights to the shows that TG4 are showing.

    Behind
    Nip/tuck
    Cold Case

    Ahead
    Without A trace
    The OC

Not yet shown any where else
    One Tree Hill
    Everwood
    Carnavale
    The Wire

    What are RTE/TV3 thinking?

And they still manage to make TV and show live sports from Ireland. (And International Sports)

[edit] How could I forget OZ

Not only all the above mentioned but their Irish made documentaries/current affairs are also class.

TG4 is the sweetener to paying the license fee.

    Everwood is on Living TV

Carnivale was the subject of an intense bidding war between Sky & Channel 4 before Christmas. It'll be on E4/C4 summer time.

I don't think I'm watching anything on Net2 save 'Friends' when it's new, and '24', and of course the final season of 'Felicity'.

RTE One has 'Gilmore Girls' (in a new Saturday slot) and that's about it.

I'm happy to watch TG4 over the rest as long as they're showing good stuff. Was annoying when they reset 'One Tree Hill' though.

    When is "cold case" on?

    TG4 - better than RTE - without a doubt.

I always thought tg4 was owned/run by rte.

Its pointless really, same with broadcasting the soaps, when the vast majority of Irish people have the four main English stations which already show them. I know if rte and bbc were broadcasting the same show simultaneously I'd watch it on bbc as the picture quality is better and there’s no ad break.

Instead of paying for the rights to broadcast emerdale, eastenders, coronation st, footballers wives, that jungle programme and the other itv crap simultaneously as the English stations, they could probably buy/produce something innovative or at the very least half decent.

Im hooked on this show for some strange reason...

Channel 4/E4 have it too, they seem to be about 7/8 episodes behind TG4.

The reason is simple: it's great. And one of the main reasons that it's great - the principal one - is simple: Seth Cohen. He is now firmly locked as my favourite character currently in any television show. Adam Brody is a superb actor and he brings a delightfully offbeat, self depricating, amusing character to the show. The cast all gel well together and there's some real chemistry between the cast. And we even have a great requisite bitch in Julie. It may be a glossy US drama but it's one of the top of its genre class.

The program kinda reminds me of Dynasty and other similar US shows from a couple of years ago.

Seth Cohen is an excellent character, as is his dad Sandy Cohen - they're quite amusing when they're both onscreen together.

The good folk at TG4 are neither blinded by the need to make money, nor the need to swim through a sea of bureacracy to act. That is why they can move faster, get more value for their money and produce quality TV.

Example: two weeks ago TG4 had its largest audience ever - close to 300k viewers. They did this by moving faster thant RTE and TV3 to win the rights to the Barcelona game. Tonight they'll probably break that record again with the away fixture.

Of all the stations their mandate was potentially the most restrictive - I remember most people thinking that its establishement was simply a nod in the direction of the Irish lobby, and that we would see 2 hours of niche, unwatchable and naff RTE-style programmes. Instead they have taken the brief and produced a very staisfactory channel that has exceeded all expectations of viewership.
