    Oh Goody !

I see that Silicon Republic have joined the assault on the misleading data that was peddled by the Comreg PR bunny department to the Media on Tuesday (the 16th as we were breaking for the Bank Holiday) . EircomTribunal had noticed and publicised the distortion in This Thread and Silicon Republic then went after Comreg for it.

    From Silicon Republic
Based on the results from all of the people surveyed, total domestic internet access stands at 38pc . This constitutes a rise of 1pc on the previous quarter, whereas the statistic of 49pc usage – taken from the fixed-line subset only – offers the more substantial quarterly growth rate of 5pc.

Comreg Do Not Allow the Consultants who do their Internet surveys to produce separate data for Rural and for Urban dwellers. Hopefully Silicon Republic will chase them a bit more to find out why :D . Internet usage in Rural areas is actually in decline and has been for a year or so because of the Pairgain (aka Carrier Line) issue that Comreg has completely ducked in the hope that it will go away.

It won't go away and no amount of PR Bunny Activity will mask the issue any more so here is the interesting question for Silicon Republic or ENN (who have shown signs of investigatory activity iin recent times ) !

    Q. Can Amárach Consulting revisit their Internet Statistics and break them down as follows.

    1. Persons living in Towns with a population of 5000 and above on 31/12/2003
    2. Persons living elsewhere.

and show Internet usage growth or decrease for each of those categories for the years 2001 - 2003 , by quarter for FIXED LINE only .
