    I'm talking about industry experience.

Pretty soon now the industry will have its anual dumpage of fresh faced graduates. There must be what...about 500 (give or take) grduates coming into the industry all looking to climb over the guy/girl infront to get a job! And i'm only talking 500 in dublin alone.

So when employers start getting the CV's in the door do they just immeadiately toss the CV that have no IT experience or do they give everyone a fair chance? And when you see "2-3 years relevant experience" is it always cut and dry...if the applicant doesn't have the experience mentioned is the CV destined for the recycle bin?

Personally I'm a computer science student (you don't see many of us on boards but hey here i am). I've had a couple of IT jobs.
    1) About a year of tech support
    2) About 15months of development in a large company (work experience during college).

I probably have more experience than most grad's coming out of full time degree's but i'm still a bit worried about securing full time employment. Although there is a voice in the back of my mind saying "You're grand...sure you've got experience now...you can pick and choose!"....

So seriously, what sort of state is the industry in at the moment, i've seen a couple of people mention thats its on a bit of a pick-up these days... But will there be jobs for this years graduates?

the other 1 in 2 are computer science graduates.

It varies company to company. I've seen companies advertise jobs as 'graduate' jobs that require one year's experience, and 'junior' positions that require 4 years. You should be able to get a decent job with your experience (I'm not green at all) but you'll have to work for it.

It's amazing... I work in training and developement and as such am part of the recruitment team for the company I work for. You would not believe the amount of operators we have working for us with degrees and masters. It's just unreal.

I'd view a grad as anyone with up to 2 years post qualification experience. In that if I advertised at that level that's the applicants I'd be looking at. If the employers is prepared to take graduates without experience, you'll have an edge, but that's all.

Your experience should get you near the top of the CV pile of grads with no post qualification experience, and should get you an interview - but the interview will be what matters.

    Good luck:D
